In a recent CNBC interview, President Donald Trump claimed that "a very wealthy group of people" is preparing to purchase TikTok. However, he declined to name any individuals or entities behind the supposed acquisition plan.
The Interview
In the interview video below, Trump said the government has a buyer for TikTok, but he thinks he will probably need China's approval. He also said the current Chinese President Xi Jinping, will probably do it. As mentioned earlier, no names were revealed, but it will be announced in "about two weeks".

Will TikTok Ever Be Sold?
For those who have not followed up on the news, it was only recently that Trump signed an executive order giving TikTok a new 90-day extension (again). The move pushes the deadline to 17 September 2025, giving TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, more time to divest its U.S. operations and avoid a nationwide ban.
To count, this was the third delay in giving TikTok an extension. The first one was back in January 2025, followed by one in April, even though Trump claimed the deal should be "completed" back then. With this latest news, we are beginning to wonder if TikTok will ever get sold at all.
National Security and Regulatory Hurdles Remain
Despite the bold claim of an interested buyer group, several challenges lie ahead. Any sale of TikTok will face intense regulatory and political scrutiny. Lawmakers and federal agencies will be watching closely to ensure the deal doesn’t compromise national security or hand control to foreign-linked entities.
Uncertainty Clouds TikTok’s Future
As speculation builds, TikTok finds itself in a precarious position. It is still popular among millions of Americans, but under heavy geopolitical pressure. Whether Trump’s unnamed “wealthy group” can come forward with a credible offer remains to be seen, but the clock is ticking on ByteDance’s decision.
