Just two days ago, Elon Musk announced there would be limited post-reading per day. Initially, verified accounts were given the privilege to read 6000 posts per day but got increased to 10,000 per day. This applies to unverified accounts too but with lower rates.

That being said, Twitter released a press statement regarding the matter not too long ago. Besides addressing extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation, the company updated us that the Rate Limits are taking place in order to remove spam and bots on Twitter and to ensure the user base authenticity.

The Rate Limits were also announced out of the blue because Twitter said "any advance notice would have allowed bad actors to alter their behaviour to evade detection". So with this, the Twitter team is working to prevent these accounts from scraping Twitter data to build AI models and manipulate people and conversations.

Moreover, Twitter said the current restriction is affecting a small percentage of Twitter users and will provide an update again when the work is done. Advertising on Twitter seems to be affected too but at a minimal level.

Very soon, Meta will launch a new app called Threads as a new rival app to Twitter. It's scheduled to release on 6 July 2023 and it can be seen on the Apple App Store now. It will be very interesting to see how Threads go up against Twitter.
