Watch out for Pokemon Go fakes!

While Malaysians and many other markets in the world wait for Niantic Labs to make Pokemon Go available officially, a number of Pokemon Go fakes have apparently appeared on the Play Store. According to the online security folks from ESET, one of them was "Pokemon Go Ultimate" which renames itself as "PI Network" after installation and runs in the background while clicking porn ads online. One step away from being Malware, "Pokemon Go Ultimate" could only be removed using Android Device Manager or pulling out the battery.

We haven't found it or other Pokemon Go fakes on the Play Store right now, but be wary about any possible fakes coming up. If it isn't by "Niantic, Inc" then it is probably a fake and shouldn't be installed. We're thankful that the guys at Google are mostly keeping this in check but it's a good idea to be wary about this yourself too and instead of installing unknown fakes, go sign up to be notified when Pokemon Go is available in Malaysia while you're at it.
