WhatsApp to follow Telegram and potentially allow its users to send files up to 2GB in size soon

WhatsApp, by far the most used messaging app in Malaysia is facing some stiff competition from its rivals, especially from Telegram. In fact, back in January 2021, a lot of WhatsApp users made the switch to Telegram after the former’s questionable change in privacy policy.

More than a year later, the Meta-owned messaging app is now trying to retain as well as win over users back again with a slew of new features currently in the works. These include message reactionspollstrue multi-device support and the ability to send files up to 2GB in size.

The last feature was spotted in the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS beta, which is version 22.7.0.76. As reported by WABetaInfo, some beta iOS testers for the app in Argentina found that they can send files up to 2GB in size with the latest beta version.

Furthermore, the feature is also available for the Android beta version of WhatsApp for certain Android beta testers in Argentina. Hmm, why is WhatsApp only testing the feature in the South American country though?

Well, I have no answer to that question, but what I do know is that with the feature being spotted in the beta version, WhatsApp may be introducing it to the masses in the future. However, they are no guarantees though, as WhatsApp may just decided that this feature is not that important after the beta test.

It’s important to note that Telegram currently allows for up to 2GB files sharing by its users. So, if anything, maybe WhatsApp would be introducing the same feature to compete with Telegram.
