Works Minister: 5 more highways to implement open toll payment system this September

Previously, we reported that several highways in Malaysia will allow users to pay tolls using debit and credit cards this September. Now, the Works Ministry has announced that another 5 highways have agreed to participate in the open payment system. 

Taking to his official Facebook page, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the 5 highways are:

  • Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) 
  • SPRINT Highway
  • Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas)
  • SMART Tunnel 
  • Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Expressway (MEX)

The other 5 highways that are confirmed to implement the open payment system are 

  • Sungai Besi Expressway 
  • New Pantai Expressway
  • Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway 
  • Guthrie Corridor Expressway
  • Penang Bridge
  • Butterworth-Kulim Expressway

Nanta further elaborated that the open payment system will be implemented in phases involving various concession companies. Negotiations on the matter are an ongoing effort and need to be done to ensure the successful implementation of the Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) system; a non-stop toll collection system with no boom barriers. 

Speaking of which, the Works Minister also announced that the Sungai Besi Expressway would be the first location for the implementation of MLFF Proof of Concept (POC) this October. Previously, Nanta said that his ministry is aiming to implement MLFF by 2025.
