HMD Global have officially announced their much rumoured Nokia 8 flagship smartphone for a price tag of about 599 euros (~RM3030). Featuring a metal unibody chassis made from a single block of 6000 aluminum, the Nokia 8 packs in flagship features like a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB/128GB storage, USB Type-C, NFC, fingerprint sensor and a 5.3-inch LCD display with 2K or 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and Gorilla Glass 5. On the back there are dual 13MP rear cameras (RGB + monochrome) with ZEISS lens, Optical Image Stabilization or OIS and Phase detection autofocus or PDAF. Another 13MP PDAF camera with ZEISS lens is on the front while a 3090 mAh battery with quick charging and Android 7.1.1 Nougat keeps the Nokia 8 powered.

The upcoming Huawei Mate 10 will apparently be skipping IFA 2017 (which is due in September 2017) as a leaked teaser invite from techprolonged seems to indicate that we'll "Meet the device worth waiting for" on 16 October 2017 in Munich, Germany. The teaser doesn't reveal anything else except a big 10 in the background, but the Mate 10 has been rumoured to have a 6.1-inch bezel-less display called Entire-View that features a 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio.

Celcom announced new video-centric additions to their FIRST postpaid plans with their FIRST Gold Supreme and FIRST Platinum Plus postpaid plans. In addition, the current FIRST Platinum, FIRST Gold and FIRST Gold Plus postpaid plans have been revised while all FIRST plans get unlimited calls, WhatsApp, WeChat and music streaming via Yonder Music. Celcom have also included Merdeka promotions and Celcom EasyPhone to make it easier for users to own their own smartpone.

Tech Specs for what appear to be the ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro have leaked on GFXBench via Phonearena showing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB RAM, 64GB storage and a 5.5-inch FHD display. There also appears to be a 12MP rear camera which we hope would be a dual pixel sensor and an 8MP front camera which is strange since the ZenFone 3 Zoom comes with a 13MP front camera.

In contrast to some other EISA 2017-2018 award winners, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus both won the Best Smartphone EISA 2017-2018 award together for their do-it-all capabilities. While there is mention of the bezel-less Infinity Display, iris scanner and new Bixby voice assistant, there isn't any single feature that has been particularly highlighted or focused on, except perhaps that the 12MP rear camera more or less remains the same (yes, they have a better camera algorithm technology, but it is basically the same hardware). Regardless, these "formidable do-it-all" devices were also affected by the recent price drop and are available from RM2595 (Galaxy S8, RRP: RM3299) and RM2899 (Galaxy S8 Plus, RRP: RM3699).

Huawei's Consumer Business Group also received awards from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) with the EISA Smartphone Camera 2017-2018 Award for the Huawei P10 and the EISA Wearable Device 2017-2018 Award for the Huawei Watch 2. As the 5th consecutive year that the Huawei P series has been recognised by EISA Awards, the Huawei P10 won thanks to its Leica dual rear camera, Leica front camera, 3D face detection, dynamic illumination and other technology. Priced at an RRP of RM2499, recent price drops have seen it go to as low as RM1939.

The Huawei Watch 2 on the other hand won due to its stand-alone 4G technology, IP68 dust and waterproof rating, improved battery life, personalized health coach, fitness tracking and more. While it was quite highly priced initially at an RRP of RM1999, the sportier Watch 2 can now be had for as low as RM1457.

Honor recently received the Best Product 2017-2018, Consumer Smartphone award from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) awards 2017 for their Honor 8 Pro smartphone. Highlighting the 5.7-inch 2K or 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution display, 6GB RAM, dual 12MP rear cameras, 4000 mAh battery and more, the Honor 8 Pro offers plenty of added value at an RRP of RM1999 (our current price list has it going from RM1849). Still known as one of the best cameraphones around, the Google Pixel's photography prowess comes in part from the software algorithms of the HDR+ feature in its Google Camera app. Now, according to Android Authority, B-S-G from 4PDA, modified Google Camera 4.4 which can be sideloaded for any device using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, Snapdragon 821 and Snapdragon 835 (these include the LG G6, OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5, Samsung Galaxy S8 and more). While this may improve the quality of low-light shots, we expect this modified HDR+ to also increase processing requirements, making these phones hotter than previously.
