The computer scene in the movie Minority Report may have visualized it best, but everyone dreams of writing in the air and having it appear on your computer, smartphone or other device. While there are a whole bunch of motion controlled wearables coming, the Logbar Ring could well allow us all to write in the air once more. Currently a Kickstarter crowd-funding project, the Logbar Ring is a bluetooth device which allows you to write or gesture in the air, interpret these gestures and send them to your device of choice, sort of like an air keyboard. It also gets notifications but the main focus of the Logbar Ring is for gesture control. It is compatible with iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices, even smart watches and Google Glass, and you can customize gestures as you will. In terms of design the Logbar Ring looks like a large thick ring and can do 1000 gestures on a single charge. Logbar have already reached their Kickstarter goal with another 30 days to go so you can still get the Ring set from $165 (RM540). The Logbar Ring will be shipped in July 2014. Check out Logbar Ring site for more information.

As reported earlier, the Nokia X has reached Malaysia with a launching today for the first of Nokia's Android-powered smartphones. Priced at RM399, the Nokia X targets the entry-level to midrange with the aim to bridge the gap between the Nokia Asha featurephones and the Nokia Lumia smartphones. Tech specs and features for the Nokia X include a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage + 32GB microSD, a 4-inch display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, a 3MP rear camera and dual-SIM support. The design looks like a standard Lumia or Nokia Asha 500 but what is making most users excited is the fact that you can use Android apps, Nokia Apps and Microsoft services from a single device. That being said, the Nokia X gets all of it's officially supported apps from the Nokia Store, but you can download and install Android apps without too much trouble. There may be some issues with compatibility but most apps should work. The Nokia XL is expected in the coming months but the Nokia X+ may not come to Malaysia at all. Stay tuned for more updates.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear 2, Galaxy Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit smartwatches and smartband were recently revealed at the MWC 2014 with many hoping that the pricing would be somewhat more affordable than the previous Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch. As it turns out, pricing could actually be the same or higher, but with a wider range to choose from this time around. Rumours from Sam Mobile indicate that the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 could cost 299 Euros (RM1343), while the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo and the Gear Fit could go for 199 Euros (RM894) each. With the original Samsung Galaxy Gear already costing RM999, this dashes our hopes of a more affordable smartwatch alternative, but the price could change when it comes to Malaysia. No specific Malaysia release dates were mentioned but we'll find out soon enough (probably with the Samsung Galaxy S5 launch in Malaysia).

The recently announced ASUS ZenFone smartphones offer some really interesting features with the ZenFone UI being one of them, but what many Malaysians are most interested in is the price and when or if the ZenFone 4, 5 and 6 will arrive in Malaysia. Recently, we heard some news that the ASUS ZenFone range could be coming to Malaysia in April 2014 direct from ASUS Malaysia. Furthermore, we received an anonymous tip that the ASUS ZenFone 4 could be priced from RM250 while the ASUS ZenFone 5 could get a price range of around RM450 to RM700. The larger ASUS ZenFone 6 phablet could go for around RM700 to RM900 with the overall pricing expected to be below RM1K. US pricing for the ZenFone range was $99 (RM324) for the ZenFone 4, $149 (RM487) for the ZenFone 5 and $199 (RM651) for the ZenFone 6. While you should take every rumour with a pinch of salt, we think this is a very exciting rumour nonetheless especially for fellow Malaysians looking for a good deal (and a good yet affordable smartphone). In the meantime check out the tech specs and video in this article for a refresher of the ASUS ZenFone 4, 5 and 6 smartphones.

Both the Sony Xperia Z2 and Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet were recently revealed at the MWC 2014 but a little known fact remains that both devices are the first to offer MHL 3.0 micro-USB ports. Most smartphones today are just using MHL 2.0 micro-USB ports which are a lot slower. The new MHL 3.0 port allows for 4K video output thanks to a dedicated 75 Mbps data transfer rate (MHL 2.0 only offered 1 Mbps) while charging and providing data transfer as well. Granted, 75Mbps is rather slow compared to USB 3.0 whihc allows up to 600 Mbps data transfers but it is still much better than the current MHL 2.0 standard. Most people probably won't have a 4K HDTV but if you do, you should probably get an MHL 3.0 port enabled device like the Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet as well.

When you take a picture with a camera, the resulting image file usually contains EXIF data, which contains details like when it was taken and with what device. A new sample image that cropped up recently not only shows that it was taken by the upcoming Oppo Find 7 smartphone but also that the camera used to take the image has a 50MP camera sensor. The image has a resolution of 8160 x 6120 and while it certainly doesn't look all that detailed it is fairly sharp nonetheless. Tech specs and features for the Oppo Find 7 are all top notch with a Snapdragon 801 processor and chipset and a 5.5-inch display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. We're hoping that the new camera sensor will also come with some good oversampling features, as even the 41MP Nokia Lumia 1020 didn't use all of it's megapixels for pure image data. While there aren't any Malaysia release dates or pricing just yet, the Oppo Find 7 should be announced on 19 March 2014 so stay tuned.

As we predicted back when the Geeksphone Revolution was first announced, it was only a matter of time before someone else would come up with another dual-OS smartphone that would probably use a mix of Windows Phone and Android. This has proven to come true as Karbonn has just announced that it will be coming out with smartphone that will use the two aforementioned mobile operating systems. The Indian company says that the dual-OS Karbonn device will target office users and techies but there was no mention of other tech specs or features. The device is expected in June 2014 but there is still no specific Malaysia release date or pricing just yet. Stay tuned and we'll keep you posted as to any new developments.
