Well, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has provided more in-depth data on the matter, revealing that 5G network users in Malaysia have reached 53.35% or 18.19 million subscribers as of the same date.

Perlis Youth and Sports, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman Mohd Ridzuan Hashim has revealed that the 5G network coverage in the state has now reached an impressive 99.75% of populated areas. He further lauded the 5G network as a catalyst towards fostering a culture of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) among the people in Perlis.

CelcomDigi, in a statement today, said that it is “considering several options at hand” after it was snubbed for U Mobile in the awarding of Malaysia’s second 5G network. However, CelcomDigi assures that the decision will have no impact on its current 5G customers.

Back in January, we reported how Malaysia’s 5G network coverage in populated areas finally reached the 80 per cent target, hitting 80.2% coverage as of 31 December 2023. However, it seems that the coverage rate has stumbled this year, as only a mere 1.5 per cent coverage increase was recorded in 5 months.

Today, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) is pleased to announce that the Share Subscription Agreements (SSAs) are ready to be completed by the four mobile network operators (MNO) in Malaysia. Of course, this includes CelcomDigi Berhad through Information Sdn Bhd, Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd, U Mobile Sdn Bhd and YTL Communications Sdn Bhd through YTL Power International Bhd.
