With the commercial launch of 5G services in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and Kuala Lumpur (some spots), Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) just recently announced the signing of a Fibre Leasing Service agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) to speed up the deployment of the Government-owned 5G network nationwide. The term sheet agreement is a total contract value of RM2 billion over 10 years.

Today, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) officially launched 5G coverage commercially in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and a few spots in Kuala Lumpur. Alongside Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) on behalf of unifi Mobile and YTL Communications Sdn Bhd on behalf of YES, these two companies are the first mobile operators to provide 5G access.

As many of you should know by now, the Malaysian government is planning to use Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) as a single wholesale model to distribute 5G services. At the same time, they are having second thoughts of that to allow competition and now according to Reuters, our local telcos have recommended allowing a second 5G service.

A few days, ago, we reported that the Malaysian government is working on making 5G service more affordable than 4G. How they plan to do it is anyone's guess, but Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz just made an official announcement today about the cost.
