MediaTek has officially announced the Dimensity 800U mid-ranged with 5G support, which uses the 7nm manufacturing process. While not much is known in regards to which smartphone will come equipped with the aforementioned chipset, MediaTek did mention that it will most likely make an appearance outside of China starting Q3 2020.

5G technology is becoming a must for the latest smartphones to have these days. Although the communication technology has not been widely implemented yet, it is still a good idea to future proof the devices. Other than smartphones, Intel and MediaTek are also reported to be launching their 5G solution for laptops too.

It seems that XDA-Developers recently discovered that there’s a mid-range OnePlus smartphone currently in the works and it’s expected to come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G chipset. While not much is known in regards to the new mid-range smartphone, our source did mention that the device will most likely perform up to 60% faster compared to Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset.

We've been seeing a few new Helio chipsets from MediaTek, but the company has been focusing mostly on its Dimensity series of chipsets. The latest one is the Dimensity 720, a new 5G chipset that we saw hints of with the OPPO A72 leak a few days ago. MediaTek has now launched this chipset, which will provide mid-range devices with 5G connectivity.

Yesterday night, realme posted a teaser photo on Weibo with a caption saying “the punch-hole will replace the pill-shaped front camera”. Furthermore, they also mentioned that the new upcoming smartphone series will support 5G connectivity.

Wait, there was a Part 1? Yes, I did one and it was published 3 years ago! Many things have changed over the years in the smartphone industry and surprise, many features have become a reality and went beyond what we initially joked about. There's even a phone with 16GB of RAM now for goodness sake!
