News & Reviews:   Apple iPhone 6S Malaysia launch

While we're about six to seven months away from the actual official release of the Apple iPhone 7, the wishfully thinking designers have already come out with their own renders. A new one recently surfaced showing off a Super AMOLED display, ceramic back, waterproof design, A10 processor and no 3.5mm headphone jack. The overall design remains the same though, retaining the rounded metal frame from the Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

The no headphone jack feature certainly seems likely indicating a thinner iPhone 7 but the rest seem very much like wishful thinking to us. While this cycle of the iPhone iteration should result in a differently designed smartphone, Apple have never made any waterproof smartphone to date, so there is no reason for them to start now. As usual of such rumours, do take it with a good pinch of salt. No Malaysia release dates or pricing details yet, but stay tuned for more details.

If you’re wondering what’s that big fat iPhone cover on the image, well that’d be the new iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case by Apple. They have quietly launched it in their online store and it costs $99 (RM421.67).

Coming in Charcoal Gray and White colour options, inserting the Apple iPhone 6s into the charger will automatically display an intelligent battery status on the smartphone’s lock screen and in the Notification Center, it also increases the talk time by up to 25 hours, 18 hours on internet usage, and even longer audio and video playback. We don’t know how much mAh is that, but that’s seriously a lot of power.

Introducing the Latitude (or in this case, re-introducing) wireless charging case for any Apple iPhone. This Kickstarter campaign by BEZALEL is returning for a second round. BEZALEL’s first Kickstarter campaign for the Latitude last year earned more than four times during the fundraising goal. Now the second campaign is back and was launched on 10 November 2015 and it will end on 15 December 2015.

Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) began its six launch events sale on 16th October 2015 nationwide with the Apple iPhone 6s and Apple iPhone 6s Plus. Many excited Apple fans queued up from 10pm to get their hands on Apple’s latest smartphones and other goodies. The Apple fans who pre-ordered the latest iPhone also enjoyed an additional RM200 rebate after signing up for the Digi SmartPlan 98, meanwhile the customers who weren’t Digi users got an RM300 rebate after switching to Digi. Digi also did the midnight delivery of pre-ordered iPhones to their customers’ doorsteps. 

After the various midnight launches last night, the Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are now officially available in Malaysia. Yesterday we did manage to handle both the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus and both feel as slim and premium as the previous iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The major difference here is that only the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have gold and rose gold colour options, the other smartphones, including the iPhone 5s only come in silver and space grey. Pricing remains the same despite the ringgit stabilizing somewhat at RM4.18 against 1 USD. This probably means we'll have to see a drop back to the previous RM3.5 or RM3.3 levels for Apple to reduce the pricing further. As the roll-out of Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus pre-order initiatives continues for Malaysia's telcos, a closer look at Apple Store Malaysia has revealed official pricing for the two smartphones. Confirming our previous Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus price listings, the iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s are also available but only in 16GB and 64GB (just up to 32GB for the iPhone 5s) storage versions. Pricing has not decreased since the earlier price hike, in fact, there have been increases across the board for all Apple iPhones. Quite obviously, the main culprit is Malaysia's current currency value and the addition of 6% GST. However, the value of the ringgit seems to be improving, so lets all hope that it recovers enough for Apple to lower the price somewhat. In the wake of the recent reveal of the Malaysia pricing for the Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, we managed to get some leaked images of U Mobile's latest Flexi U MicroCredit installment payment plan. The leaked slides detail an installment plan that offers you the choice to decide payment schedules of 12, 24, 30 and 36 months with interest rates from as low as 0.84%. You can also choose to pay by cash or credit card and also select the financing amount from RM1000 to RM3500. As before with the U MicroCredit plan, the new Flexi U MicroCredit plan will allow both U Mobile postpaid and prepaid users to get the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus. In addition, you can apply either online or through U Mobile branches or dealers with minimal submission documents. While we do caution you to take this with a pinch of salt, the slides also seem to be genuine, which is more good news for those of you wanting a more flexible way to buy the new Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Malaysia's telcos have started the pre-orders for the Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, inadvertantly revealing the pricing for both smartphones in Malaysia. While the official pricing is still due on 16 October 2015, we assume that the price won't change that much as it follows our earlier predictions of being about RM400 or so more than before. You can see the complete listing according to Digi below but according to their pre-order page, they are offering a special promo of RM200 discount with the iPhone 6s pricing from RM1152 and the iPhone 6s Plus from RM1577. Celcom don't have any pricing details but do have a listing of Celcom and Blue Cube outlets that you can walk in to do a pre-order. Maxis are offering 12 month and 24 month contracts with the iPhone 6s from RM1990 and the iPhone 6s Plus for RM2415. U Mobile is the only other major Malaysian telco to not have a pre-order but they are offering the iPhones on U MicroCredit and also have what looks to be a more flexible Flexi U MicroCredit plan in the works.
