A few days ago, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced that the audit team will take action on internet service providers if they failed to provide quality service. Today, MCMC walked the talk and issued Commission Instructions against Celcom, Digi and U Mobile.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has revealed that the government is willing to consider fiscal incentives to assist local telco companies in transitioning to 5G. These incentives are meant to mitigate any short-term commercial consequences of providing 5G services to their customers.

The proposed merger between two of Malaysia’s biggest telco companies, Celcom and Digi has been in the works for quite some time now. Previously, we reported that the merger is set to be completed in the second half of 2022 but now, it seems that it may extend for a bit longer as the long stop date for their share purchase agreement (SPA) has been extended to 31 December 2022.

Celcom has recently introduced a new voice call service in Malaysia which allows for better calls over any WiFi network, regardless of mobile coverage. Called Voice Over WiFI (VoWIFI), the service allows users to make calls indoors through WiFI connection, hence the quality would be much better, especially if your mobile coverage indoors are not up to par.

Celcom Axiata Bhd today announced that Tan Sri Dr Halim Shafie has been appointed as its new interim chairman. Dr Halim’s appointment is effective since 2 June 2022.

Celcom Axiata Bhd will do its best to meet the deadline with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) on the 5G network service agreement in Malaysia. Previously, we reported that K-KOMM has given telco companies until 30 June 2022 to finalise the agreement with DNB.

It's been almost two months since the Malaysian government had offered the telcos (Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile) an equity stake in Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). However, it has become clear that the discussions among themselves have not been going well.

Celcom Axiata Bhd (Celcom) in a statement yesterday stressed that it is aiming to expand the coverage and capacity of its 4G LTE service in East Malaysia by the year’s end. The company is aiming for 92 percent coverage in Sarawak and 85 percent in Sabah.

The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) has revealed that negotiations are still ongoing between telco companies and Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) on the 5G network service agreement in Malaysia. This is according to its minister, Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
