    Huawei MediaPad M2 Hands-on - Awesome four speakers

    Huawei Malaysia announced the Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 back in March. It is an Android tablet that's thin and light with an aluminium build, making it a direct challenger to the Apple iPad Air 2. It packs tech specs of a Kirin 930 octa-core processor, 2GB/3GB RAM, 16GB/64GB internal storage (expandable memory available), 10.0-inch screen with an IPS LCD panel and 1920 x 1200 resolution, 13MP rear camera + 5MP front camera, fingerprint sensor, M-Pen stylus and 6660 mAh battery.     Huawei shipped 108 million smartphones for #3 in the world, more collaborations coming in 2016

    Apart from the Huawei Mate 8 and other CES 2016 announcementsHuawei also revealed that they managed to ship 108 million smartphones for 2015, gaining the #3 position in the global smartphone market and the top smartphone position in China. Revenues were more than $20 billion for 2015, almost a 70 percent increase over 2014.

    Huawei attributes this success to continuous collaborations made with other top brands such as Google (resulting in the Huawei Nexus 6P), Swarovski (resulting in new Huawei Watch designs)  and Harmon Kardon (resulting in the MediaPad M2 tablets). Here in Malaysia, Huawei not only rolled out the Nexus 6P, Mate S and Honor 7 but also started off their Smart City solution. According to Huawei, 2016 will involve more collaborations, building upon the momentum of their achievements in 2015.

    As you might have guess, Huawei’s teaser yesterday hinted a possible new tablet and it turned out to be true. Introducing the Huawei MediaPad M2 tablet, the 10-inch device was revealed in CES 2016 and has an active stylus support with two variants in Silver and Gold colour.

    Huawei MediaPad M2 tech specs:-

    • Kirin 930 octa-core chip
    • 2GB (silver) / 3GB (gold) RAM 
    • 16GB (silver) / 64GB (gold) internal storage (expandable memory available)
    • 10-inch screen with an IPS LCD panel and 1920 x 1200 resolution
    • 13MP rear camera + 5MP front camera
    • Fingerprint sensor, M-Pen stylus
    • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and microUSB 2.0
    • 6660 mAh battery

    Asides from launching their premium Huawei Mate S smartphone for Malaysia's masses, Huawei Malaysia also launched the Huawei G8 smartphone and Huawei M2 tablet. The Huawei G8 looks to be the value offer here while offering a full metal body with fast Fingerprint 2.0 fingerprint sensor. The Huawei M2 tablet on the other hand is the successor of the Huawei MediaPad M1, featuring an 8-inch full HD display with dual front Harmon Kardon speakers. Both will be priced at RM1499 and are available starting from today.

    The Huawei Mediapad M2 has appeared before in France but recently it got it's official launching, which means we could soon see it coming here to Malaysia. Tech specs and features are surprisingly similar to the Huawei P8, with a premium metal body, Kirin 930 processor and 3GB of RAM. While there is already a 6.8-inch display Huawei P8 Max, the Mediapad M2 packs in an 8-inch full HD display instead. The Mediapad M2 does decrease the camera specs though but even then, you don't often see an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera on a tablet. Design-wise, the Mediapad M8 is 7.88mm thin but the overall flat and thin design with curvy corners remains the same. Features also include 4G LTE connectivity and dual 1W speakers with Harmon Kardon Clari-Fi audio technology while a 4800 mAh battery keeps the lights on. No Malaysia release dates yet, but we expect the Mediapad X2 to arrive first. Pricing for the Huawei Mediapad M2 start at 1588 CNY (RM972) for the 16GB WiFi only version, 1888 CNY (RM1155) for the 16GB 4G LTE versions and 2288 CNY (RM1400) for the 64GB 4G LTE version.

    The Huawei MediaPad M2 tablet was recently revealed in France for €349 (RM1397). The flat and thin tablet with an 8-inch display a more grippy chrome trim but retains the same metal body and high screen to body ratio as the previous MediaPad M1. Tech specs and features have obviously been upgraded with a 64-bit 2GHz octa-core Kirin 930 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and 8-inch display with 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. Other tech specs include an 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 4G LTE connectivity and Android Lollipop along with a 4800 mAh battery. Retaining the flat and thin look, the MediaPad M2 measures in at 7.8mm thin and weighs 310g but the price is higher than the previous RM1099 of the MediaPad M1. No Malaysia release dates yet but it should arrive in France or Europe sometime in June 2015.
