Samsung Pay officially launches in Malaysia for more Samsung phones and more banks and loyalty cards
Feb 24, 2017After the preview with Maybank and Samsung Pay, Samsung Malaysia Electronics has officially launched their contactless electronic wallet Samsung Pay for more Samsung phones (Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy A7 2016, Galaxy A5 2016, Galaxy A5 2017 and Galaxy A7 2017) and more supported banks. While Maybank is still the only bank that supports debit and prepaid cards, CIMB, Citibank and Standard Chartered credit cards are now supported on Samsung Pay. Hong Leong bank is expected to join the pack shortly with other banks set to join up eventually.

As of 5 January 2017, both the Samsung Galaxy A7 and A5 (2017) smartphones were revealed in Malaysia for RM1899 and RM1699 respectively. Apart from selling devices, Samsung is also involved in other businesses, which includes shipping, construction and even white goods. One of the features that they have introduced previously is Samsung Pay – a payment system that allows Samsung phones to be used as payment instead of cash. It seems that Malaysia is next on the list of countries to have this payment system as Samsung users have been prompted with an invitation to join the Open Beta trial locally.

Sometime today Samsung released three video commercials highlighting their Samsung Galaxy A series in terms of design, camera and mobile payment. These short promotional videos show off the metal and glass designs of the phones, their f/1.9 camera with OIS in action, and the seamless process of paying with Samsung Pay. Well, if you haven't heard of Samsung Galaxy A (2016) series, the series includes the model Galaxy A3 (2016), Galaxy A5 (2016), Galaxy A7 (2016) and Galaxy A9 (2016). The Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro has officially made it, with an official listing in China for 3599 RMB (RM2188). The largest of the Samsung Galaxy A (2016) series, it packs in a 6-inch fHD display but retains the same look and feel as the other Galaxy A (2016) smartphones like the Galaxy A5 (2016) andGalaxy A7 (2016). No Malaysia release dates or pricing details but it should reach local third-party sellers before arriving officially in Malaysia.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) is one of the newest mid-range smartphone that came out at the end of January in Malaysia, and also the middle child between the Galaxy A3 (2016) and Galaxy A7 (2016). The mid-range Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) sports a 64-bit 1.6GHz octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and can store 16GB worth of memory (expandable memory slot available). It feels kind of light and looks quite nice, also features a fingerprint sensor on the home button.
