Without a doubt, this week was the week where Apple rose to the occasion with their new jet black, waterproof, dual camera Apple iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 while the Samsung announced how to replace their recalled Galaxy Note 7 in full disclosure. You can now get the previous gen iPhone 6S Plus, 6S, SE and iPads cheaper than before and Apple also announced their waterproof 2nd-gen Apple Watch Series 2 along with their AirPods.

Samsung is well known for making several different model phones to cater for different markets. There's the high-end Samsung Galaxy S series, the productivity Samsung Galaxy Note series, and then there is the Samsung Galaxy J series - the current entry-level to mid-range smartphones from Samsung. The one we have here right now is the Samsung Galaxy J5 – the middle child (at least for now) of the J series in Malaysia. We have already reviewed the Samsung Galaxy J7 2016 alongside the Samsung Galaxy J1 2016, and now the Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 is next on the list. Let’s see how the phone fares in our review below.

Looks like the biggest news of the week came in at the last moment as Samsung officially recalled the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 over a faulty sometimes exploding battery. It wasn't the only one suspended as Google also stopped work on their Project Ara modular smartphone.

This week on Weekly TechNave, Samsung Malaysia went entry-level in a big way with the official announcement of their Galaxy J 2016 series. Of note was the Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 priced at below RM450 but packing a free Yes 4G LTE SIM with 30GB of data preloaded for 2 months. Honor Malaysia officially revealed the more powerful and beautiful honor 5C for RM799 while the Xiaomi Mi 5 finally landed in Malaysia for RM1549 at non-online shops.

Thanks to Samsung Mobile Malaysia we managed to get some hands-on time with the new Galaxy J1 2016, Galaxy J5 2016 and Galaxy J7 2016. Priced respectively at RM449, RM849 and RM1049, the new Galaxy J 2016 series was launched yesterday and will be available today alongside the already available Galaxy J3 2016 which is priced at RM649.

Samsung Malaysia Electronics have just announced their new Samsung Galaxy J 2016 series with the Galaxy J1 2016, Galaxy J5 2016 and Galaxy J7 2016. The Galaxy J3 2016 priced at RM649 is already available but the Galaxy J1 2016, Galaxy J5 2016 and Galaxy J7 2016 will be available in Malaysia tomorrow at RM449, RM849 and RM1049 respectively, with only these three coming with a free YES 4G LTE prepaid SIM card with 2 months of 30GB of data. This offer is also only available while stocks last, so if you're in for freebies and value, you know what you have to do tomorrow.

This week, in a field previously dominated by Samsung and LG, Lenovo showed off their flexible phone-watch bracelet and foldable tablet concept alongside their modular Moto Z and Moto Z Force. Lenovo also announced their Phab 2, Phab 2 Plus and Phab 2 Pro (which is the first consumer Tango phone) while the ZTE nubia Z11 Max also went official as well. In China, the Samsung Galaxy J3 Pro officially appeared as well.

After the TechNave exclusive pics and tech specs of the Samsung Galaxy J3 2016, Galaxy J5 2016 and Galaxy J7 2016 were revealed, Samsung Malaysia have gone and made it official by sending out invites for the Samsung Galaxy J 2016 series launch in Malaysia. The launch is set to happen on 15 June 2016, confirming earlier reports of the event.
