Omdia, a global research and advisory group focused on the technology industry recently shared a report regarding the foldable smartphone market in 2021. Unsurprisingly, Samsung dominated the market throughout last year, with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G being the best-selling foldable last year.
In fact, the sales of Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G was head and shoulders above every other foldable, including Samsung’s other foldables. With 4.6 million shipments, the smartphone is responsible for 52% of all foldable sales last year.

Samsung’s latest foldable display smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Z Fold3 feature a tougher, stronger hinge that they say can be folded 100 times a day for 5 years, or about 200,001 times during that same time period. We’ve tested and reviewed both and we can safely say that they are the toughest foldable display devices with IPX8 water resistance from Samsung yet.

We finally managed to get some up-close time with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and while it seems like it's the same, there are in fact quite a lot of improvements. While the device is still folded down the middle, the most standout feature for the Galaxy Z Fold3 is the under display 4MP front camera. This under-display camera isn’t visible at all at a distance, but if you look closer, you can make out the circle where this camera is located. Read more here.

Until now, we haven't seen any other smartphone brands release their devices with an under-display camera besides ZTE. As we've come across many reports saying that the technology is difficult to be perfected due to the balance between display and light transmission, that might be the reason why others are hesitant to release one. The good news is, OPPO has scheduled an event on 4 August to unveil its second-gen under-display camera technology, and we might see something that persuades others to give the technology a try.
