Terengganu Infrastructure, Public Facilities, Utilities and Technology Committee chairman, Dr Mamad Puteh has announced that the state will have 66 new telecommunications towers operational next year under the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA). Furthermore, the state’s 4G coverage in populated areas are also expected to increase to 97.26 percent by the end of this year.

Earlier today we reported that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has approved the merger between Celcom and Digi. Now, a further look into the approval shows that it comes with certain requirements, including the divestment of the Yoodo brand.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has today approved the proposed merger between Celcom Axiata Bhd and Digi.com Bhd. Asserting that the merger will create Malaysia’s largest mobile service operator to date, MCMC made the decision after conducting a thorough assessment on the proposal. 

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has revealed that the government is willing to consider fiscal incentives to assist local telco companies in transitioning to 5G. These incentives are meant to mitigate any short-term commercial consequences of providing 5G services to their customers.

Celcom has recently introduced a new voice call service in Malaysia which allows for better calls over any WiFi network, regardless of mobile coverage. Called Voice Over WiFI (VoWIFI), the service allows users to make calls indoors through WiFI connection, hence the quality would be much better, especially if your mobile coverage indoors are not up to par.

Update: U Mobile's PR agency has reached out to us and confirmed that the company has not signed on to anything.

Just last night, U Mobile seemingly just went live with its 5G promotion page. Yes, it's past tense because the page is no longer available this morning but this caught our attention enough.

Back in July 2021, a JENDELA map web portal was released in Malaysia for Malaysians to check their internet area coverage. On top of that, they may also submit a report on how each telco's mobile service performs in a particular area. Today, a new JENDELA app is now available on the Google Play and Apple App Store.

Last month, Maxis announced that it's helping Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) implement a 5G network in KLIA. Local telco companies are working hard on developing 5G in Malaysia, which means that 4G coverage and speed has to keep up to be a reliable backup. It also means that they're starting to consider shutting down older networks.

Yup, you can now check out your area if the signal strength is strong enough thanks to the newly launched JENDELA Map. By visiting the official webpage here, you can now go anywhere on the map and even make reports on the spot.

Back in April 2021, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has proposed a new Mandatory Standards for the Quality of Wireless Broadband Service (MSQoS). This initiative is scheduled to begin in August 2021 but it has been met with disagreements by our local telcos.
