Terengganu Infrastructure, Public Facilities, Utilities and Technology Committee chairman, Dr Mamad Puteh has announced that the state will have 66 new telecommunications towers operational next year under the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA). Furthermore, the state’s 4G coverage in populated areas are also expected to increase to 97.26 percent by the end of this year.

Celcom has recently introduced a new voice call service in Malaysia which allows for better calls over any WiFi network, regardless of mobile coverage. Called Voice Over WiFI (VoWIFI), the service allows users to make calls indoors through WiFI connection, hence the quality would be much better, especially if your mobile coverage indoors are not up to par.

Back in July 2021, a JENDELA map web portal was released in Malaysia for Malaysians to check their internet area coverage. On top of that, they may also submit a report on how each telco's mobile service performs in a particular area. Today, a new JENDELA app is now available on the Google Play and Apple App Store.

Last month, Maxis announced that it's helping Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) implement a 5G network in KLIA. Local telco companies are working hard on developing 5G in Malaysia, which means that 4G coverage and speed has to keep up to be a reliable backup. It also means that they're starting to consider shutting down older networks.
