With Apple's A14 Bionic and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 being the current flagship chipsets, the demand for 5nm process naturally hikes up as well. It is reported that TSMC will increase the monthly production capacity from 60,000 pieces to 100,000 pieces in the second half of the year.

At the beginning of 2021, we'll get to see smartphone manufacturers showcasing their latest devices that come with 5nm chipsets that include Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888, Samsung Exynos 1080, and Exynos 2100. As Apple has already launched the iPhone 12 with the 5nm A14 Bionic chip earlier this year, the tech giant might have now shifted their focus to something more powerful. It is reported that Apple has become the first to contract with TSMC for the 3nm process.

Before Apple launches its new MacBooks, it was believed that the chipset used is the A14X Bionic. Whatever it is, the fact is that the TSMC-manufactured chip is powerful and future chips are only going to get better. Now, sources claim that the A16 chipset could be available as early as late 2021.

After parting ways with TSMC, HUAWEI has secured a big stock of Dimensity chipsets from MediaTek, as discovered from the chip manufacturer's quarterly results. Now, it is reported that HUAWEI might soon announce a bunch of smartphones that come with MediaTek's chipsets.

Unlike Samsung, HUAWEI only design chipsets without involving themselves in the manufacturing part. Therefore, the aftermath caused by the U.S. ban brought a rather big impact on the company's chip supply. Earlier, it was reported that the Kirin 9000 will be HUAWEI's last flagship chip. Now, the Chinese tech giant might be stepping out of the comfort zone and try to start manufacturing chips.

Previously, there were reports that Samsung was going to manufacture Qualcomm's chipsets but here's another new one. Qualcomm has chosen Samsung Electronics over Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) to manufacture 5G mobile application processors, namely the Snapdragon 750.

Based on a statement by gizchina, it seems that TSMC will start production of 3nm chips starting from 2022 onwards. While not much is known in regards to which smartphone will come equipped with the new chips, we do know that the new chips will not only provide more power but also higher efficiency.

While we're waiting for chip makers to launch their 5nm chipsets after Apple made the first move, TSMC has gotten ahead with more impressive technology. It is reported that the company's R&D team has made a major breakthrough in the development of the 2nm process. Let's find out what it is about!

At the IFA 2020, HUAWEI was supposed to announce the world's first commercial 5nm mobile processor at their keynote that happened on 3 September. However, it looks like the plan has changed as the 5nm process (a.k.a Kirin 1000) was nowhere to be found. It is reported that HUAWEI is trying to stay low profile to avoid drawing unnecessary attention.

Not only the U.S. is banning HUAWEI to have any affiliation with the country's companies, but companies from other corners of the world are being affected as well. Earlier, it has been reported that HUAWEI is not able to manufacture the Kirin chips anymore due to their chip supplier TSMC being pressured by the ban. Now, MediaTek is facing the same problem as well. However, it looks like the chip manufacturer is not going to give up working with HUAWEI, as they applied for an exemption from the ban.
