While we are still waiting for Celcom, Digi and Maxis to announce their 5G adoption plans, U Mobile just announced a new Postpaid 38 plan that is 5G-ready. At RM38 per month, this postpaid has a total of 30GB of high-speed data and unlimited calls as well.

As of 16 March 2022, the Malaysian government announced that Digital Nasional Berhad's (DNB) Single Wholesale Network (SWN) will remain as planned. However, the government also only retain a 30% equity stake in DNB and offered the rest of the 70% to Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile.

After waiting for more than two weeks, the Malaysian government has finally settled on what they were going to do with the Single Wholesale Network (SWN). From today's tweet as well as the press conference, the government has decided to maintain the implementation of the 5G network as an SWN.

Opensignal have recently announced the results for their Global Mobile Network Experience Awards 2022 and Netherlands is the best place for video, South Korea is the best for gaming and has fastest average download speeds (~143 Mbps) while Denmark wins it for uploading (~20.9 Mbps). Malaysia’s telcos on the other hand managed to score with improvements in 4G Availability - Global Rising Stars but after Malaysia shut down 3G mobile connectivity last year, this isn’t entirely unexpected.

As many of you should know by now, the Malaysian government is planning to use Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) as a single wholesale model to distribute 5G services. At the same time, they are having second thoughts of that to allow competition and now according to Reuters, our local telcos have recommended allowing a second 5G service.

Today, U Mobile has announced a new collaboration agreement with Allo Technology Sdn Bhd and together, U Mobile is offering a new Ultra Unlimited Home Fibre Broadband for Malaysians residing in Melaka, Cyberjaya, Perak and Kedah as a pilot. The orange telco intends to make its fibre broadband plans available to more locations and non-U Mobile customers soon.
