Remember the Under Display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor that vivo has been bragging about? We got the latest update for you, it seems that Synaptics has finally solved the problem of embedded fingerprint sensors on the display and is now mass producing it for vivo as we speak. Finally!

In a short announcement, Vivo Chief Executive Officer, Shen Wei has announced that Vivo's technology department has kicked off the research and development for its 5G smartphone prototypes next year, as well as combining artificial intelligence (A.I.) with it. With that, the earliest that we can see such product will be in 2019 where the company plans to release a commercial 5G smartphone, followed by a 5G device that leverages A.I. in 2021.

Last week Thursday, vivo has officially signed an agreement with Qualcomm to supply US$4 billion in components for the next three years. During the signing, Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump witnessed the signing of deals worth US$253 billion, making the USA visit to China one of the most fruitful business agreements ever witnessed.

Aside from the recent introduction of the Under Display Fingerprint Scanning Solution by vivo, the company has also announced two more technologies at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Shanghai - a new Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and a customised DAC decoding chip.

For the past few days since mid-June, we have heard so much about the "black technology" which vivo has teased about. But today, we have official information on the technology, simply called as the Under Display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor, it will be the first of its kind to be revealed to the world. Although it's not officially released yet, let's take a look at what the technology can offer. 

In case you didn’t know, the FIFA Confederation Cup has already started this week as mentioned in our post about vivo being the official sponsor for the FIFA World Cup 2018 and 2022. That being said, vivo also showed their presence with their own mascot and advertisements.

A leaked video in Weibo has shown a jet-black Vivo smartphone with a typical clock and a fingerprint icon embedded in the screen. We could be seeing the world’s first embedded, screen-integrated fingerprint scanner.

According to the latest report from research firm IDC, OPPO is now the top smartphone brand in China. The company took a 16.8% share of the market, shipping a total of 78.4 million units in 2016! It is closely followed by Huawei, as well as Vivo, making up the Top 3 with a 48% total market share.

While we may just saw the launch of the latest and greatest SoC from Qualcomm, we have yet to know how the SoC is like in terms of performance. A new report has been spotted online, showing the possible specs of the 835, as well as the mid-tier 660 as well.

You know Android is the king of smartphone when you get numbers like this – a report online shared that the OS from Google is currently holding about 86.2% of the world smartphone market share for the first half of 2016. Trailing way behind is iOS with under 12%.
