Xiaomi is back again and known for its reputation for manufacturing affordable and good quality phones, the Redmi Note 5 is no exception and is a welcome addition to the Malaysia market. There's actually the blue model which is really beautiful but we got the black one instead (oh well), but at least we have the 4GB + 64GB variant which cost RM999. Today, Xiaomi Malaysia has officially brought in the long awaited Redmi Note 5. Just in case you click on that link and it shows you the Redmi Note 5 Pro, this is our version of it as we already have one using Redmi 5 Plus specs (I know, so confusing). So to make it clearer, the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro that was shown in India = our Redmi 5 Plus and Redmi Note 5 respectively. Ok? Ok, let's move on.

Initially announced in India back in February 2018 as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has appeared being teased by the official Mi store on Lazada to be coming to Malaysia on 24 April 2018 (Update: the invites are out at it has been confirmed as 24 April 2018). Priced at 13999 INR (~RM855) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version and 16999 INR (~RM1038) for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage version, we considered the previous pricing of the Mi A1 (RM1099) for an expected Malaysia price range of RM1149 to RM1299.

Xiaomi officially announced their Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (known as Redmi 5 Plus in Malaysia) and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro in India today. The 4GB RAM + 64GB storage Redmi Note 5 Pro is priced at 13999 INR (~RM855) while a 6GB RAM + 64GB storage version is priced at 16999 INR (~RM1038). The 3GB RAM + 32GB storage Redmi Note 5 going for 9999 INR (~RM610) while a 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version is going for 11999 INR (~RM732). No Malaysia release dates or pricing details yet but it is available in India starting from 22 February 2018.

Based on the page listing, all we can see is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 behind a red curtain with a listed price of 8888CNY. This price should be purely symbolic due to 8 being a lucky Chinese number and is in no way related to the actual pricing because that would be nuts.

Leaks of the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 from TechRadar indicate that there will be 2 variants with different processors and one of them may be packing in the more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, which is the first time we'll be seeing this midrange processor for the entry-level Redmi series. In addition, it may also have a 16MP+5MP dual rear camera with a 12MP front camera.
