It looks like the trend of making your own custom chipset is going to get bigger. After Apple released the M1 chip, many have praised the performance it brings to the new MacBooks. The success might have inspired a few others to give in-house SoC a try as well. Besides Google's rumoured in-house "Whitechapel" SoC for the upcoming Pixel 6 series, Xiaomi and Samsung are said to be teaming up to develop one that utilizes ARM's Cortex X2 and Mali GPU.
