Not only is December the Christmas season but it's also the month where we expect 5G to be launched by the Malaysian government. Digital Nasional Berhad is responsible for rollout the technology soon and the latest news has it that the commercial release date is 15 December 2021.

In case you missed it, the 5G network coverage will start in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and some spots in Kuala Lumpur. According to the Malaysian government projection, the 5G coverage is expected to cover up to 80% of the populated area by the end of 2024. That said, our minister of Communication and Multimedia also said Sarawak and Melaka will be one of the first states to receive 5G technology.

In other news, Telekom Malaysia will also assist DNB to conduct test trials on 5G optimisation. During the pilot trial, some unifi Mobile Postpaid subscribers may experience some 5G network speeds as long as they have a 5G phone (which is in every new phone now). The users should expect 100Mbps as the minimum speed.

At the moment of posting this news, there is still no news of how the local telcos will deliver their 5G services for the consumers in Malaysia. Until then, we can only wait and see for the official announcement. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
