While software exploits are ultimately inevitable, not many expected there to be a jailbreak for iOS 13.5 to arrive as quickly as it did. What made the unc0ver jailbreak bad for Apple is how it can work on nearly all modern iOS-based devices. Apple has since launched the new iOS 13.5.1 to patch the vulnerability and has taken steps to ensure you can't switch out of it.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple has now made it so that you can't rollback your Apple device to iOS 13.5. In other words, users who made the upgrade to iOS 13.5.1 will no longer be able to downgrade. While this is an easy way for Apple to reduce the number of people who use the unc0ver jailbreak, users who haven't upgrade can just opt to remain on iOS 13.5. Moreover, this type of blocking isn't always fair. Some users choose to downgrade when there's a bug in the new version, so disabling the downgrade means they might have to live with a major exploit.

Of course, the jailbreak community will always find a way to get around Apple's fixes, so it's only a matter of time before we see the next jailbreak. But regardless of that, upgrading to iOS 13.5.1 does have some benefits, such as fixing a memory consumption issue. This improved the memory handling performance for devices on the new version.

With WWDC 2020 set for later this month, iOS 13.5.1 is just an interim before Apple launches iOS 14 with all its new features. Until then, stay tuned to TechNave.com for further updates and other tech news.
