Apple submits patent on alternate sensors for voice detection

Wow, Apple has sure been working on a lot of new techs lately. It's only the start of 2021, but we've already seen one patent for MacBooks and another two for iPhones. But that doesn't seem to be the end, as sources have now found another patent to detect voices.

According to AppleInsider, Apple is researching on how to get Siri to detect specific voices and location of the voices by vibrations. Instead of using a microphone, the patent mentions using "Self-Mixing Interferometry Sensors". The reason for this is that a mic requires a port for air, so the device won't be completely air-tight. But Apple's proposed technology might be able to detect voices even if it's airtightly sealed.

Rather than a microphone, the basic idea is to use a panel that senses vibrations

Besides the ultrasonic sensors, Apple is also proposing the use of a variety of other sensors for light, touch, force, heat, and more. The idea is to use these sensors in a device like the Apple Watch to determine where the user is, as well as other Apple devices in your surroundings. For example, users wearing an Apple Watch could walk into a room with the Apple TV and it would be detected, allowing the former to wake the latter from low power mode.

Mind you, this is only at the patent stage for now. The tech may take years or may never be implemented, but it's something interesting to note. What do you think about it?
