If you're not convinced about how big online transactions can be, you just need to see the figures for 2020. Our government announced a new Digital Services Tax last year that targeted online platforms like Google Play, Sony PlayStation Store, and more. Today, the amount collected was announced.

According to Bernama, the government has managed to collect a total of RM428.07 million through the new tax. Datuk Haji Abdul Rahim bin Bakri (Deputy Minister of Finance I) said that this is a new source of revenue for Malaysia that will be "enhanced in the future". We're not sure what he meant by that, but it's possible that the tax rate could increase in the future.

Personally, I don't want to see the Digital Services Tax rate increase. But I won't be surprised if it happens, so I suggest we keep in mind that it could happen. Having said that, do you feel that the tax has impacted the overall cost of your expenditure on online services? Let us in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
