Half of daily active users on Threads are gone after a week

It's been more than a week since Threads by Instagram launched. As always, it was met with enthusiasm on how it would compete with Twitter. It even crossed over 100 million users in just five days but it seems that the hype has gone down considerably.

According to SimilarWeb.com, Threads used to have an average of 49 million daily active users but got cut in half. In just a week, the social platform only has 23.6 million daily active users and if compared to Twitter, it's quite a far cry as the latter has an average of 109 million daily active users.

Of course, 23.6 million users is still a huge one but it's just 22% of Twitter's audience. Sources also reported that Threads peaked at around 21 minutes of engagement on 7 July 2023. Since the number of daily active users decreased, so did the engagement too with over 6 minutes. It was also interesting to note that when Threads launched, Twitter's web traffic was down 5% but came back up to 11% after a week.

As Threads is still in its infancy, there are a number of features in the works to make the platform better. One of them is supporting direct messages, as well as featuring hashtags, an edit button, and many more which you can read what Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri had to say
