Update: According to the source, Huawei Mate 10 will  be priced at RM2699 and Mate 10 Pro will be priced about RM3099 in Malaysia. The Mate 10 will be available on 28 Oct.

Huawei officially announced their flagship Huawei Mate 10 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro smartphones today with mostly NPU (Neural-network Processing Unit) assisted features for 699 euros (~RM3479) and 799 euros (~RM3977). The Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design was also revealed for 1499 euros (~RM7473). No Malaysia release dates or pricing details yet, but we expect it to be lower than the pricing above (as Malaysian pricing has generally been lower than European pricing), with the first 2 coming to Malaysia soon.

Clearly, the Mate 10 Pro offers a slimmer and thinner profile with IP67 water and dust resistance certification but at the cost of a MicroSD slot, 3.5mm audio jack and slightly lower full HD+ resolution. It also packs in faster 4.5G LTE (Cat18) while the Mate 10 retains the 3.5mm audio jack, microSD slot and a higher resolution 2K display. The Mate 10 Pro also comes in the exclusive Midnight Blue and Titanium Grey with mirror polished backsides.

The NPU will let your Huawei Mate 10 evolve!

Featuring advanced parallel processing on a scale higher than a GPU or graphics processing unit, the NPU works together with the Kirin 970 + GPU + Dual ISP together to increase performance while staying energy efficient. These new NPU powered features for all the Huawei Mate 10 smartphones include:

  • A faster loading image gallery thanks to NPU assisted image recognition and sorting
  • Easy Talk - Clearer calls thanks to NPU assisted AI Voice reduction, intelligently enhancing and amplifying voice while reducing noise for both the speaker and the listener

  • Instant intelligent auto setting camera which automatically applies the correct scene setting (night, pets, sports, food, landscape, macro, people, etc) in real-time, created using machine learning based on 100 million and more images.

  • A more accurate language translator (built with Microsoft), allowing for more natural sounding and context sensitive translations in real-time for over 60 languages

Huawei have said that they intend to upgrade these NPU assisted features with every new update, allowing the camera to match more scenes correctly (like light painting or night sky photography), adding more languages for the translator and so forth. New NPU assisted features will also be added like low power Augmented Reality (AR) and NPU-assisted smart assistants such as Google Now. The NPU code is already being offered to third-party developers like Google and Microsoft, allowing these Huawei Mate 10 smartphones to evolve into better, more intelligent and energy efficient devices.

New EMUI 8.0 features

Apparently, the Huawei Mate 10 smartphones will be using EMUI 8.0 to match Android 8.0 (the previous version was EMUI 5.1). Here are some of the EMUI 8.0 features coming with the Mate 10 smartphones.

  • Easy Projection - turn your Huawei Mate 10 into a PC via a standard USB Type-C adaptor, with nearly any compatible projector, TV or monitor using nearly every app (and GAME!!!!). The phone works separately from the desktop and can also be used as the mobile touchpad or keyboard for the Easy Projection desktop.

  • One tap smart split screen - automatically split screen to another app (like a chat or message) while you are playing a game or watching a movie with a single tap (will detect if you’re in the dark in the future). You can also adjust the columns.
