MediaTek has been getting a lot of buzz this month. It was just last week when the company unveiled the Helio G85 and Dimensity 1000+ chipsets. Now, MediaTek is gearing up for another event on 18 May 2020 for the launch of another Dimensity series chipset.

According to the source on Weibo, the originally named Dimensity 800+ chipset is now the Dimensity 820 chipset. This is going to be a 5G chipset and could have three different SKUs. The source claims that the chipset's CPU could run on either 2GHz, 2.2GHz, or 2.6GHz. What does this mean? Well, smartphone manufacturers could potentially scale cost of their phones according to the chosen performance level.

Besides that, it's probably safe to assume that the Dimensity 820 chipset is derived from the Dimensity 800 chipset. In other words, it could still be using four Cortex-A76 and four Cortex-A55 CPU cores, as well as the Mali-G77MC4 GPU. It should also come with HyperEngine technology, which is supposed to enhanced gaming performance.

MediaTek chips aren't as well-known as Qualcomm ones, but they tend to come in cheaper devices. If you're budget conscious, a Dimensity 820-powered smartphone could be one you would be interesting.
