Xiaomi could be developing a more affordable AirTag

In May, Apple finally launched its tracking device - the Apple AirTags - in Malaysia. Since then, Samsung has launched its own version called the SmartTag, while OnePlus and OPPO are reportedly working on similar devices. Well, now we can add Xiaomi to the list too.

According to ITHome (via Gizmochina), Xiaomi has submitted a patent for a "Method and Device for Finding Objects". Interestingly enough, the patent was first submitted way back in 2017 but was only published now. Although we can't confirm this, it could mean that Xiaomi came up with the idea even before Apple did.

Either way, the patent (CN106877911B) describes a device that can be used to locate items. This is basically what the Apple AirTag is designed to do. Since it's being developed by Xiaomi, it's suggested that it could be a more affordable alternative to Apple's device.

Mind you, that's purely speculation, so take it with a grain of salt. Having said that, how many of you appreciate a device that helps you find your stuff? Do let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
