Brazil’s government yesterday (6 September 2022) ordered Apple to stop selling iPhones without a battery charger in the country, claiming that the tech giant is providing an incomplete product to consumers. Moreover, Brazil’s Justice Ministry also fined Apple 12.275 million reais or ~RM10.718 million and ordered Apple to cancel sales of the iPhone 12 and newer models.

Apple is potentially planning to release a new variation of its iPhone power adapter soon which is 35W and comes with dual USB-C ports. Currently, the tech giant only has a 20W adapter with a single USB-C port available for the iPhone.

The accessory was first spotted by 9to5Mac in a support document published on Apple’s website. However, it has since been removed from the site, potentially due to it being uploaded by mistake.

It seems like the 'ditching charger' craze has spread to another smartphone company. Having that said, realme has announced that it will not include a charger in the packaging box of the upcoming Narzo 50A Prime.

Apple’s controversial move of not including chargers and EarPods when you purchase an iPhone drew the flake of many when it was first announced back in 2020. In fact, a lot of rival companies even poked fun and mocked the decision through various ads, most notably Samsung.

However, 2 years on, it seems that not including chargers with smartphone purchases has become the new industry standard practice. In fact, most of the major smartphone manufacturers have been doing the same or planning to do so in the future. 

When Apple became the first phone company to ditch the charging brick, it didn't take long for many tech enthusiasts and other brands to mock its decision. However, other brands also started imitating Apple's method and that includes Samsung.

If you remember back in May, a Brazillian actually won a lawsuit against Apple for not including a charger in the iPhone 12 series box. This is due to Brazil's consumer protection regulator body, Procon-SP accused Apple of "misleading advertising".

Back in late March 2021, Apple was fined by Brazil's authorities for not including a charger adapter in the latest iPhone 12 box. Even though the company had paid $2 million already, they also have to include one now after losing a lawsuit to Mariana Morales Oliveira, from Santos (Sao Paulo), Brazil. 

It seems that a new Xiaomi GaN charger has been spotted on weibo, hinting that the new charger is capable of achieving up to 67W charging speed. While not much is known in regards to the release date, it does give us a better idea on what to expect when the charger is officially available in the global market.

In 2020, the smartphone industry had achieved some remarkable breakthroughs and one of them is allowing chargers to go up to 100W or even surpass it. Now we're in 2021, the companies will only aim higher by increasing the number. It is reported that a HUAWEI charger that supports 135W fast charging has been certified by China's 3C Agency.

This year, Apple has decided not to include the charger and EarPods in the box of the iPhone 12 series for environmental goals. Although it was first doubted by the consumers, the sale of the series is still going more than just well with the iPhone 12 Pro being out of stock globally. Now, it appears that the tech giant might take out another thing from the box for the iPhone 13 series.
