HUAWEI today celebrated the successful conclusion of the HUAWEI Developer Day, a one-day event held in Kuala Lumpur which celebrated the evolution and growth of the HUAWEI Mobile Service (HMS) ecosystem. During the event, the company revealed that since its debut in 2018, the HMS ecosystem has become one of the top 3 mobile app ecosystems in the world with the total number of global HMS Core developers reaching 6 million with 25,030 opened APIs.

At the end of August, Huawei CEO Richard Yu said that there will be no smartphones that will have HarmonyOS in 2020. But that doesn't mean there wouldn't be any HarmonyOS-based device this year. In fact, rumours claim that Huawei could launch tablets this year that feature its in-house operating system.

Earlier this month, Huawei CEO Yu Chengdong announced that its upcoming smartwatch will feature Harmony OS. He also mentioned that other products, including smartphones, will start using the OS too. Now, sources suggest that smartphones with Harmony OS could appear sooner than later.

Without Google Mobile Services (GMS), it’s harder for Huawei to keep up with other devices from another brands with the services. Although the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is trying to make the most out of its Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), it may still take some time for the services to be mature. Recently, we have found out Huawei is sourcing from India to develop alternative Google apps and services, and promised they will be ready by the end of this year.

Huawei Mobile Services or HMS, home of Huawei’s AppGallery, will be participating at the Tokyo Game Show 2019 (TGS 2019) from 12 September 2019 to 15 September 2019 at booth 7-C03, Hall 7. As such, they are offering 300 free passes for mobile game developers to better collaborate and optimise their games for Huawei Mobile devices which can be redeemed here (be warned, it’s in Japanese).
