The fight between the European Union and Apple on standardising the charging port as USB-C port has come to an end. According to the latest report, the law passes with 602 votes in favour, 13 against and 8 abstentions. It means that Apple would have to switch from the Lightning port to the USB-C port by 2024.

Two days ago, the European Union (EU) have an agreement that all compact electronic devices must use a USB Type-C charger by fall 2024. In other words, Apple must follow suit with its iPhone 16 when it hits the market in two years but it seems the UK government is not "currently considering" following EU's footsteps.

The European Commission has won the fight against smartphone manufacturers using cables none other than the USB-C. By fall 2024, all mobile phones, tablets and cameras sold in the EU must only use USB-C cable for all sorts of purposes. Not only that, but it seems like the fans are also eagerly waiting for that to happen, as an iPhone X modified with a USB-C port sold over ~RM416K earlier. Until now, a source claims that the tech giant might do that with next year's iPhone 14 Pro lineup.
