Yesterday on 15 April 2021, there was a second quarterly Jendela report by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). While it was a rather long report, sources have pointed out that the 4G LTE and internet network strength are still being criticized over the past few months.

The MCMC Minister Saifuddin Abdullah has recently released a statement hinting that the MySejahtera App, which is currently being used by more than 25 million Malaysians will most likely become a Super App in the future. With that in mind, the upcoming Super App will have various features including e-finance, education, delivery, and many more.

Earlier today, the Malaysian government announced the PEMERKASA programme which provides families with school children with RM300 in order to purchase a smartphone. Not only that, but they’ve also introduced the MyBAIKHATI programme to help distribute laptops as well as used electronics to those in need.

Under the Jendela Initiative, it seems that around 839 locations across 8 Malaysian states will be getting broadband access service via Satellite by October 2021. The locations mentioned comprised mostly of rural areas and Orang Asli settlements that are relatively hard to access and deploy effectively.

Today, The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a new statement about prioritising Internet installation of communication services in priority areas. In order to fast track and resolve the issues of delays, they also listed out steps to ensure better service to the people.

With 5G connectivity underway by the end of 2021, it was also mentioned that this technology will be leased through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) company. If you think it sounds like a closed market, that's because it is but the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would like to clarify further about that.

To 'ensure the local internet users are protected', our government has taken initiatives to restrict access to porn sites for several years. It is reported that 2,921 porn sites had been blocked starting from September 2018 until 2020. However, it appears that their initiatives are not strong enough as Malaysia has become one of the top-ranked countries that perform most searches on a reputable porn site last year.

MCMC Chairman Fadhlullah Suhaimi recently announced on the MyDigital Future-Accelerating 5G Zoom meeting that the 5G will not be bid through public bidding. Instead, the 5G network will be leased to an SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) that’s owned by the ministry.

In light of the recent event about J&T Express employees throwing delivery boxes on purpose, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) just stated that they requested the company to explain on the issue. At the same time, MCMC also gave a warning to the management and hope they can improve customer packaging handling procedures.
