  • Rumours: Apple iPhone 6 to be named iPhone Air and be 6mm thin?

Rumours: Apple iPhone 6 to be named iPhone Air and be 6mm thin?

Seemingly taking a page from another concept renderer, a rumour has surfaced saying that the Apple iPhone 6 or next Apple iPhone could be called the Apple iPhone Air. This is because it will measure 6mm thin compared to the 7.6mm thin Apple iPhone 5S. This is still quite thick compared to the 3mm thin concept render previously shown but it is thinner than the previous generation and probably more realistic. Reports indicate that the Apple iPhone Air will still have a metal body but weigh more than the previous version, perhaps because of a larger screen size. No Malaysia release dates or pricing just yet but it should be revealed sometime in September 2014.

  • Rumours: Apple iPhone phablet coming in May 2014?

Rumours: Apple iPhone phablet coming in May 2014?

The giant rumour mill continues, this time with a rumour about the next Apple iPhone, which many are saying could be coming in 4.7-inches or going phablet-sized with a 5.7-inch display. Recent reports have come up saying that Apple may announce these new iPhone models in May 2014 with a Malaysia release date expected later in the year (probably Q3). Other tech specs and features that may come with the new models include rumours that they will be using the same A7 processor in the Apple iPhone 5S but no news if these processors will be tweaked or overclocked or just the same old 1.3GHz. Other rumours indicate that these larger sized Apple phones could be a completely new range rather than the next version of the Apple iPhone, which would be iPhone 6. As always, do take this rumour with a pinch of salt, as the jump in display size is rather large for Apple, who are fairly conservative when it comes to a design that isn't broken.

  • Apple iPhone 5S battery tests completed, some improvement

Apple iPhone 5S battery tests completed, some improvement

The Apple iPhone 5S has been out in the market for quite some time. Bringing about a fairly big hardware upgrade over the previous Apple iPhone 5 with the 64-bit A7 processor and chipset along with a number of other upgrades, benchmarks of the iPhone 5S have been quite good in terms of performance. However, it has taken some time for complete battery benchmarks to be done. These battery benchmarks have since been done and the short answer is that the iPhone 5S is a bit more energy efficient than the iPhone 5 with a 5 hour or so battery life compared to the previous version. Bear in mind that this is on really heavy usage and that usuallyt, on normal usage, most users can expect about 10 hours or so worth of battery time on a single charge. This still isn't good enough to take out the battery life champion nor some of the other smartphones in the same price range but it does offer some measure of improvement over the previous iPhone.

  • U Mobile launches 4G LTE for almost all users

U Mobile launches 4G LTE for almost all users

As teased earlier, U Mobile has finally launched 4G LTE on their networks. Offering up to 75Mbps speeds the service currently covers Bandar Sunway, Berjaya Times Square, Puchong and Taman Molek, Johor Bahru. While the coverage areas are still rather limited, U Mobile have done good on their claim of 4G for all by opening it up to Prepaid, Postpaid and Broadband users. This means you don't need to get a new 4G LTE SIM card to get on U Mobile's 4G LTE network. As long as you have an LTE capable device and a U Mobile SIM all you need to do is send 'LTE ON' to 28118. • Goldgenie covers Apple iPhone 5S with crystal

Goldgenie covers Apple iPhone 5S with crystal

Right after they made the 24-carat gold plated Apple iPad Air and Apple iPad mini with Retina Display, Goldgenie have come out with a 24-carat gold plated Apple iPhone 5S almost completely covered in Swarovski Crystals. This new bling covered version is called the Apple iPhone 5S Supernova with the 16GB versions costing RM20225. While it isn't the first time someone has come out with a crystal covered smartphone the sheer number of crystals on the Goldgenie Apple iPhone 5S Supernova is almost too much, but if you like a shiny disco ball smartphone then this is perfect for you. You can get the 32GB version for another RM500 or so and the 64GB for another RM1000 or so. As usual, Goldgenie will also include a nicely laquered Cherry Oak wooden box to put the bling encrusted gold Supernova Apple iPhone. Check out the pics for yourself in the article.

  • Watch these Apple iPhone Air and iPhone 6C concepts!

Watch these Apple iPhone Air and iPhone 6C concepts!

We've already seen a curved Samsung Galaxy S5 concept so now it is Apple's turn with a curved glass concept render of the Apple iPhone 6C. Coming courtesy of SET Solution who have dreamed up a number of other concept renders  it also comes with a concept render for the Apple iPhone Air. Taking the same super thin and narrow design as the Apple iPad mini, this concept looks simply awesome on the iPhone with a proposed 1.5mm to 3mm thinness and 70g weight. While this sounds very breakable, it could probably be achieved with a flexible plastic substrate and a wireless, no port design. Obviously, neither of these two concept renders are officially endorsed by Apple but it is nice to dream so check out the videos in this article.

  • Lytro-like camera appears in Apple patent, refocusing coming to iPhone 6?

Lytro-like camera appears in Apple patent, refocusing coming to iPhone 6?

Seemingly catching up with the rest of the refocusing cameraphone crowd, Apple have recently filed a patent for a camera technology which allows Lytro-like effects. Similar to the refocusing effect in Nokia's PureView cameras and some Sony Xperia cameraphones, the technology basically allows users to take a shot and then refocus it on any point or object in the picture. The technology in Apple's patent is different from Lytro in that it offers a high-resolution non-refocusable mode along with a low-resolution refocusable mode. While the patent is for a new camera sensor, it also covers an add-on version for any existing camera. This could mean we would see it come out for the Apple iPhone 6 or as an accessory for all camera equipped Apple devices.

Rumours: Apple iPhone 6 coming in September 2014 with 5-inch 1080p display and ultra narrow bezel

Tech industry analysts just love making predictions, especially about the next smartphone or tablet, so naturally there are a whole bunch of such predictions for the Apple iPhone 6 which is due next year in 2014. These predictions include tech specs and features such as a 5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution for a 440 ppi pixel density. According to some analysts this screen will be made by LG and the iPhone 6 will be announced in September 2014. Other features include an ultra narrow bezel for a nearly edge-to-edge screen and easier one-handed operation for such a large display. Analysts also expect the Touch ID fingerprint sensor to remain although it remains unclear if Apple will maintain the 64-bit A7 processor.
