After being fined ~RM89 million, Apple still failed to comply with Brazil’s requirement and now, the nation’s Federal District-based consumer protection regulator has seized iPhones from retail stores in the country.

A Brazilian court has fined Apple BRL100 million or ~RM89 million in “social damages” for its continued practice of selling iPhones without a charger in the country. The tech giant was slapped with the fine by a Sao Paulo state court, which stressed that Apple must offer battery chargers with iPhones that are sold in Brazil.

Brazil’s government yesterday (6 September 2022) ordered Apple to stop selling iPhones without a battery charger in the country, claiming that the tech giant is providing an incomplete product to consumers. Moreover, Brazil’s Justice Ministry also fined Apple 12.275 million reais or ~RM10.718 million and ordered Apple to cancel sales of the iPhone 12 and newer models.

If you remember back in May, a Brazillian actually won a lawsuit against Apple for not including a charger in the iPhone 12 series box. This is due to Brazil's consumer protection regulator body, Procon-SP accused Apple of "misleading advertising".

Even though the company had paid $2 million already, they also have to include one now after losing a lawsuit to Mariana Morales Oliveira, from Santos (Sao Paulo), Brazil.
