Samsung and Sony both offer the best mobile camera sensors on the market. But if you were to ask which one has the highest resolution, then Samsung is the heavyweight champ with its 200MP sensors. That could change soon, as Sony gets ready to unveil its Sony LYT-910 sensor.

Upcoming flagship smartphones could soon get a major camera upgrade. Samsung has announced the ISOCELL HP5 sensor, which promises improvements over the ISOCELL HP3 launched in 2022. The ISOCELL HP5 will also be accompanied by other new technologies to enhance image quality.

Apple doesn't usually specify the origins of the components in the iPhones. However, for the first time, CEO Tim Cook confirms that the company has partnered with Sony for many years "to create the world's leading camera sensors for iPhone."

Samsung has launched another 200MP camera sensor called ISOCELL HPX. It adopts the company's smallest 0.56μm pixel size and supports 4x lossless zoom. Even if zoomed out four times, it still can output 12MP photos.

Sony has impressive image sensors for smartphones, but none of them goes above 100MP. However, things might change soon as the company is said to be working on releasing its first 100MP sensor, and it's for the premium mid-rangers.

Another tech spec of the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra might have been revealed. According to the tipster Digital Chat Station from Weibo, the device could be the first to feature the new Sony IMX989 sensor.

If you recall, Samsung first announced its 200MP camera in September. It was soon rumoured that Xiaomi would be the first company to feature the ISOCELL HP1 sensor, but that might not happen after all. Instead, another brand could be the first to use it.

There's still a few months left in 2021, but Samsung is already getting for 2022. Samsung's flagship series for next year will allegedly bring back the 3D ToF, with an Ultra variant that sports a 200MP camera too. Besides that, there's also news of a new 50MP camera.

Samsung will be launching a new camera sensor on 10 June. The Korean tech giant confirmed the news by posting a teaser on its Twitter account with the caption “ISOCELL for everyone. You deserve an awesome camera." Looking at it, the upcoming sensor might be made for lower-cost devices.

Microsoft has been playing safe when it comes to hardware. The boldest product that the company recently launched could be the Surface Duo which is a dual-screen device.
