With the new cabinet assembled by our Prime Minister Anwar, Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil was appointed as the new Minister of Digital Communications of Malaysia. During a short interview, he said the first priority is to tackle the issue of online scams.

Besides online scams, the ministry will also pay attention to fake job offers overseas, leaked data protection, as well as fake news and misinformation spread across social media. For his first month in the office, Fahmi will spend time to know and understand "different agencies, major policies and current issues facing this sector".

Over the past few months, scammers have been getting smarter in tricking Malaysians to give their personal details. This includes the recent fake RM500 giveaway via Touch 'n Go eWallet, fake websites sent in SMSes, receiving Bitcoin notifications from an app, and many more. Banks were even ordered to migrate from OTPs to more secure authentication, as online scam cases have increased higher each year.

We can only wait and see what can the new government does to serve the rakyat. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
