Filming across 15 locations with 15 teams helmed by cinematographers and utilizing 100 Apple iPhones, the newly released 1.24.14 video shows how Apple technologies have changed life. While the video itself is pretty cool, the making of the video was actually just as cool as all of the shooting took place on the same day on 24 January 2014 which is why the video is called 1.24.14. Film director Jake Scott interfaced with all 15 teams live using Face Time with the end result of 70 hours worth of video footage going to production with 46 Apple iPads and 86 Macs for an awesome video. Check it out for yourself below but this is what the director had to say about it:
"There’s a sense of liberation about being able to tell these stories with this device, to explore it and investigate it — to see what the iPhone is capable of, and then to push it and stretch it”

It seems Olympus is on a roll, with an announcement for two new M.Zuiko lens which include the Olympus M. Zuiko Digital 25mm F1.8 lens and M.Zuiko Digital Ed 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 EZ lens. The Olympus M. Zuiko Digital 25mm F1.8 lens is designed for close-up shots with a maximum magnification factor of 0.24x at 35mm and lets you shoot from 25cm away. It works well with the Macro Conversion Lens MCON-P02 which shrinks the distance down to 17cm away. A Movie and Still Compatible mechanism can be added on as well. The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital Ed 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 EZ lens on the other hand is fast, silent and the most compact zoom lens in the entire series. The price to be paid here is that it just has a 3x zoom. However, it does offer a shooting range of just 20cm on wide angle or 25cm on telephoto. While there isn't any specific Malaysia release dates or pricing these lenses should be available from February 2014.

While the Geeksphone Revolution looks like a good but rather generic smartphone, what marks it apart is the ability to instantly switch between the standard Android operating system with Firefox OS. The Spanish company doesn't offer that much in terms of technical details but they do say that you can switch between the two operating systems at any time using a graphical interface and not a hardware switch. The system will be called the 1-click OTA system. What makes it really interesting is that the smartphone can also switch to another operating system asides from the Firefox OS for smartphones, which could mean a possible Android / Windows Phone dual-OS smartphone in the future. Tech specs for the Geeksphone Revolution include:
- 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor
- 4.7-inch IPS LCD
- 1GB LPDDR2 RAM
- 4GB Storage + 32GB microSD support
- 8MP rear camera (LED flash) + 2MP front camera
- supports WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, AGPS
- 2000 mAh battery

Feb 01, 2014Samsung has finally announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo and an LTE version called the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo LTE+. Offering the same artificial leather backside and outer look and feel as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the Note 3 Neo smartphones are designed for the more affordable and as such also cuts down on certain tech specs. The most notable is the fact that both versions are now using hexa-core processors based on a Samsung Exynos chipset. This chipset follows the big.LITTLE ARM architecture with a dual-core 1.7GHz A15 processor for the main processing and a 1.3GHZ quad-core A7 set for when the smartphone is running on lower power. The non-LTE version will offer a slightly higher-clocked set of quad-core processors going at 1.6GHz. Other tech specs and features include
- 5.5-inch AMOLED display at 720 x 1280 pixel resolution
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB storage + microSD
- Samsung S Pen stylus support
- WiFi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4 LE, NFC, IR blaster
- 8MP rear camera
- 3100 mAh battery

Direct from the horses mouth, or in this case the mouth of Jonny Shih, ASUS chairman is the statement that we may soon see an ASUS smartwatch come our way. He said that such a wearable device could come by the second half of the year after June 2014 with the quote:
"There are actually many challenges in this area, and I don't think products that lack special features will be useful. We'll try to replace your watch by all means."
This isn't really new though as ASUS did say that the ASUS smartwatch would be on show at the Computex Taipei 2014 show in June this year, way back in November last year. That being said, the ASUS smartwatch is expected to offer many features although we hope that they manage to extend the battery life, make it standalone or ensure that it is compatible with every device more than special features it may have.

A listing for a Samsung device going by the model number of SM-T330 was recently found through Bluetooth SIG certification. It also revealed some rather telling tech specs including an 8-inch display, probably an AMOLED screen of some sort. Rumours are that this could be the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, which sort of fits considering that there are no other 8-inch Samsung tablets and that it is 2014, the year when Samsung is said to come out with many more tablets. Unfortunately, we couldn't get any other details such as Malaysia release dates or pricing but we expect it to make an official appearance at the MWC expo in February. Stay tuned and we'll keep you posted as to any new developments.

The Sony DSC-QX series of wireless lens cameras initially had mounting frames for smartphones, and even then it could only fit the 5-inch and below sized smartphones. Sony recently added on a mounting frame for their Sony Xperia Z Ultra phablet and are working on a mounting frame for tablets soon as well. While the tablet mounting frame is designed for the Sony Xperia Tablet Z it should be large enough to fit most 10.1-inch tablets. So far, there isn't any specific name or Malaysia release date for the tablet mounting frames but it is priced at 3675 Yen (RM120). We expect to find them in Malaysia soon, but probably after the Sony Xperia Z Ultra camera frame is available.

Samsung presenters recently revealed that they have already made a Super AMOLED screen with (2K) 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and 560ppi pixel density, making the screen about 5.2 to 5.3 inches large. While this is quite some news already, they went on to hint that higher resolution displays for smartphone could be coming soon with 4K display smartphones expected soon. A 4K display smartphone would have up to a 2160 x 3480 pixel resolution which should result in a massive 860ppi pixel density if the screen is around the same 5-inch size. These Samsung screens will likely include diamond pixels like PenTile but any sign of it shouldn't be visible on these insane pixel resolutions. No news on how else Samsung will achieve this as such 4K displays would also need suitable processors and graphics to support it, which we haven't seen or heard of yet. No news when exactly we'll be able to see some of these 4K display Samsung smartphones here in Malaysia but we're expecting early 2015 or late 2014.
