We already reported that HP wanted to get back into the smartphone industry, and as expected they've recently announced their first offerings. These include the HP Slate6 VoiceTab and HP Slate7 VoiceTab phablets. Tech specs and features include a 6-inch 720p IPS screen for the HP Slate6 VoiceTab and a 7-inch 720p IPS screen for the HP Slate7 VoiceTab. Technical details are rather lacking for now, but the phablets will offer stereo speakers, 3G and dual-SIM support, use quad-core processors, have 16GB worth of storage and HD front and rear cameras. The two phablets will run Android 4.2 from the get go and will initially be available in India. No specific Malaysia release dates but we expect an Asia Pacific roll-out soon. Again, no definite details on pricing but rumours indicate that the HP Slate6 VoiceTab could go for $200 (RM658) while the HP Slate7 VoiceTab could be priced at $250 (RM823). The phablets could have Beats Audio considering that HP still uses it in their other hardware but stay tuned and we'll keep you updated.

While smart glasses already exist, most don't really look that good. Vuzix are working on that though as they have just made a deal with a major electronics company which could result in smart glasses that have that "designer sunglasses" look. These sunglasses would utilize waveguide optics, allowing the display to be a bit more subtle than the standard crystal display overlaying the glasses lens. Unfortunately, Vuzix says that such good-looking smart glasses will only start prototyping by the end of 2014. This could mean some nice looking smart glasses in mid 2015 but if you can't wait (and don't mind the look) do check out the Vuzix site for a pair of less good-looking smart glasses. We want one that is affordable or at least on par with smartphone prices, which is what smartglasses actually are, but this is likely just wishful thinking on our part.

Anodized (champagne) gold colour smartphones are not new, especially as there are versions for the Apple iPhone 5S and HTC One, but it appears that LG are also looking to do something similar as well. This time around a gold coloured version of the LG G2 will soon be available in Taiwan. Thankfully, the prices are still the same at 14900TWD (RM1628) for the standard 16GB version. Tech specs and features for the gold version remain the same though. No Malaysia release dates on when we'd get a gold LG G2 here in Malaysia but stay tuned and we'll keep you updated. In all likelihood, we'll probably see it with local sellers first before it comes officially from LG.

Most of us are thinking that we could see the next Samsung Galaxy S5 in February 2014 when the Mobile World Congress or MWC is expected to happen. However, news reports from an official insider in Samsung has said that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would be unveiled at New York in March. The report seems even more credible as the Samsung Galaxy S4 was also introduced last March in New York as well, but do take this rumour with a pinch of salt. No Malaysia release dates or pricing just yet but we wouldn't be surprised if HTC is planning to camp outside with the HTC One+ like they did with the HTC One.

It seems that it isn't just the phablet range that Sony is filling up but also the smartphone range as well as they recently announced the Sony Xperia E1. Featuring a powerful loudspeaker, the Xperia E1 looks to retain the same premium design as other Xperia smartphones while going for a price range from $174 (RM577) to $203 (RM666). Filling out their phablet range, Sony has officially anounced the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual. Both have huge 6-inch Triluminous displays at 720 x 1280 pixel resolutions with the only major difference being that the T2 Ultra dual has dual-SIM support. Other tech specs and features for the two phablets include a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage + microSD, 13MP rear camera with Exmor RS sensor, 1.1MP front camera with Exmor R sensor, NFC + LTE and a non-removable 3000 mAh battery. The phablet retains the slim monolithic design as the Sony Xperia Z Ultra and looks quite good all in all. While it should eventually reach Malaysia there are still no specific Malaysia release dates. In terms of pricing, the device is said to be going for $545 (RM1788). While the processor isn't as top-notch as the other phablet device in the Sony Xperia range, the bigger screen and exceptional camera should make it a very tempting midrange device. For now, check out the video and images in this article.

The concept renders continue to roll out as this time around we get one for the upcoming rumoured 12.9-inch Apple iPad Pro. Rumoured to be the device that will bridge the gap between performance machines and consumer tablets, the iPad Pro is said to have hardware that will satisfy engineers, designers and other professionals. Possible tech specs include a 64-bit chipset and processor, a 12.9-inch display with 4K resolution and an Eye ID iris scanner. While we commend SET Solution, the makers of the concept render on their effort, we can't help but think that this render is a bit lacking in polish. Perhaps the tablet is too unrealistically thin or the render quality is a bit low this time around. Either way, you can check out the Apple iPad Pro concept render in this article for yourself.

While it was originally sent in back in July 2013, a patent published from Samsung reveals that new head gestures could come to the next Samsung Galaxy device in line, which would be the Samsung Galaxy S5. We've already got the Smart Stay and vertical scrolling feature, but the new patent will allow users to turn pages with certain head movements, followed by a wink or nod to confirm the action. While we think this could make your head look like a typewriter the patent reveals that the Samsung Galaxy S5 could be watching your head a lot more than you think, making it even more likely that an iris scanner could also be coming for the smartphone. No exact Malaysia release dates or pricing were available for the Samsung Galaxy S5 but it should be coming soon, perhaps in February 2014 when the next Mobile World Congress happens.
