Previously, we reported that the federal government is investigating the iPay88 cybersecurity breach in which Malaysian consumers’ card data may have been compromised. Now, even Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has issued a statement regarding the incident, reassuring the people that the nation’s payment system remains safe and secure.

The Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Tan Sri Annuar Musa has confirmed that the government is aware of the cybersecurity breach affecting online payment provider iPay88. Moreover, he revealed that the government has begun investigating the matter.

As of 2020, iPay88 (M) Sdn Bhd recorded an impressive 4.1 million e-wallet transactions. Compared with 2019, the growth is six times more than before and this due to the pandemic period. So to continue serving the growing online community better, iPay88 has partnered with Shopee and ShopeePay will be part of iPay88 from now onwards. 

iPay88 has announced that they have become one of the 60+ partners to support Google Pay and they are planning to introduce the payment system to various e-commerce platforms in Malaysia such as Shopee, Lazada, 11street, and more.
