It was only a week ago when Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the government is looking to implement age verification and identity checks for all users on social media. Looks like things are getting serious, as MCMC will convene meetings next week — in cooperation with other government agencies — with major social-media platform providers including Meta Platforms (Facebook/Instagram), Google LLC, X Corp (formerly Twitter) and TikTok.

Now, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that Anwar has given both MyDigital ID and DNB a deadline to tackle the delays of both initiatives’ rollout.

As we slowly approach the end of 2024, there should be a few things that we are happy to accomplish this year. However, our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his disappointment on two things - the rollout of the second 5G network and the MyDigital ID initiative.

After encountering some hiccups recently with its integration with the MyJPJ app, the national identity management system MyDigital ID has recorded over 1 million users in less than 1 year since its implementation. MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd CEO Mohd Mirza Mohamed Noor lauded this achievement, saying that it demonstrated Malaysia's readiness to embrace digital transformation.

This week has been a messy one for the Malaysian government. On the first day of October 2024, it was announced on the MyJPJ app that it would be compulsory to log in with MyDigital ID. The process wasn't smooth, as users encountered errors which led to a U-turn, for now.

After the recent announcement that you won’t need to have a MyDigital ID to get your driving details using the MyJPJ app for now, the MyDigital ID team have apologized via their site. However, they also note that their servers were overwhelmed with more than 150000 registrations in just 24 hours. Check out all the details here.
