Those who like to frequent cinemas got to hear the best news earlier this week when our government announced that cinemas would be allowed to operate again. Beginning 1 July, cinemas in Malaysia will reopen with a set of standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place. The SOPs were confirmed by GSC in a series of Twitter posts earlier today.

But alas, the Movement Control Order has affected our movie theatre experience and even if it's over, GSC, TGV and MBO won't reopen immediately. Even though we may not get to watch all the movies this year, we got some news that 2021 will be an exciting year because of confirmed dates for anticipated upcoming movies.

Since GSC, TGV and MBO have announced that they are closing down temporarily from the Movement Restriction initiative, we foresee many cinemas elsewhere around the world will do the same. With this, Universal Pictures just did a nice move on distributing their movies via online rental.

Yesterday night, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin declared that Malaysia will undergo movement restrictions from 18 to 31 March 2020. As a result, all non-essential businesses will have to close their premises starting tomorrow. This includes businesses like TGV Cinemas and GSC, which will be closing all cinemas and suspending operations temporarily.

So this just came in, according to the latest Twitter post by Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd - they will be closing down GSC Pavilion Kuala Lumpur officially on 17 February 2020. With that, there are still 10 days left for anyone else who would like to visit the cinema before it ceases operation.

Today, Golden Screen Cinemas has officially launched another 4DX cinema hall. This would be the company's third one at GSC IOI City Mall, Putrajaya, following the other two that are currently playing in GSC Paradigm JB and GSC 1Utama, with the latter recently launched in December 2018.
