With the recent General Election 15 held in Malaysia, the public has been growing weary and starting to spread some insightful content on social media. It has gotten so bad that TikTok had to step in to do something about it. 

Previously, we reported that Twitter may be working on reintroducing end-to-end encryption for Direct Messages (DMs), and now, it is pretty much confirmed by the company’s owner Elon Musk. Moreover, the social media platform is also adding encrypted video and voice calling between accounts too.

Twitter has been in turmoil since Elon Musk acquired it, with plans for Twitter Blue unravelling due to a problem with impersonation. As a solution, the subscription plan was shut down last week. Well, it seems Twitter is back with a new plan.

Twitter might have brought end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for direct messages (DMs) back to life. The company had worked on the feature in 2018, but it never gets to see the light. Until now, Jane Manchun Wong, a tech blogger who likes to dig up unreleased features of various apps, claims that the social media company is bringing it back.

Elon Musk has announced that he is planning to reduce his time at Twitter and eventually find a new leader to run his newly-acquired company. However, he clarified that this may “take some time” and that he will continue to run the social media company until it is in a strong place.

The Elon Musk era of Twitter is now in full swing and the world’s richest man has already put his stamp on the social media platform that he purchased in October. The latest change that Musk has implemented in Twitter is to remove the ‘Twitter for iPhone’ and ‘Twitter for Android’ labels which are shown at the bottom of tweets.

Just last week, Twitter confirmed that it would be offering paid Twitter verification for USD7.99/month (~RM38/month) on iOS. This was quickly followed by the 'official' label for, well, official accounts. But the Twitter Blue update was short-lived, as it got suspended this weekend.

As most of you already know, Twitter will be slapping an $8 monthly fee for official accounts to have that blue tick verification. It sounds like a good idea on paper to rely less on advertisements, but there are some overlooked issues (like a fake account can still buy it). With that, the company is coming up with a solution.

If you were hoping that Elon Musk was joking about paying for verification, we have bad news. Now that Musk owns Twitter, all his plans will likely take priority. As such, it's now confirmed that Twitter would cost a monthly subscription fee for verification marks.

Following his ~RM207 billion takeover of Twitter, Elon Musk has laid out several changes to be implemented in the social media platform, including paid account verification. Moreover, given his position on free speech and censorship in the past, many are also expecting Musk to reinstate banned users on Twitter but according to the man himself, this may not happen for at least the next few weeks.
