While it was announced last year in 2015, it looks like ASUS are confirming that a number of devices will be getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update by Q2 of 2016. New additions since previously include the ZenFone Zoom and Max but it also appears that certain ASUS ZenUI apps like ASUS Messenger, ASUS Mail and ASUS Calender will be replaced by their Google apps as the default apps. You can redownload these apps and install them with a factory reset after the update though.

ASUS Malaysia recently showed off their Incredible Catwalk collaboration with Kim Jones and now want us Malaysians to join in with the ZenLooks challenge. With the recent Android 6.0 Marshmallow update on Samsung Galaxy rumour, ASUS and OnePlus have also announced their own Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in the coming weeks (or months). There are no specific Malaysia release dates yet, but rest assured the updates are official by the two companies. Not too long ago, cameraphones were rather expensive devices that provided excellent camera performance and features while being a smartphone at the same time. They usually had larger than average or phablet-sized displays which when coupled with their more powerful cameras usually resulted in having rather poor battery life. However, times are changing and we now have smartphones like the ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser ZE550KL which not only offers a 13MP PixelMaster camera and laser autofocus but also a 5.5-inch display for just RM799. The ASUS ZenFone 2 offers a well balanced mix of style and performance. It is also one of the most affordable 4GB RAM smartphones around with the ZenFone 2 ZE551ML 4GB RAM / 32GB storage version going for RM1199. Quite recently a version with 4GB RAM and 16GB storage has appeared onAmazon and other online resellers for just $229 (RM970). While most of the tech specs and features remain the same with a 5.5-inch FHD display and 13MP PixelMaster rear camera, it looks like this version may have the slightly slower 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3560 processor rather than the 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 processor but both are just as powerful. Still no news of any Malaysia release dates for this version of the ZenFone 2 but it could offer a very tempting below RM1K smartphone for the Malaysian masses.

Another day another OnePlus 2 teaser, this time around OnePlus have confirmed that their upcoming smartphone will have 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. It joins a number of other 4GB RAM smartphones like the ASUS ZenFone 2 ZE551ML and the Lenovo K90 but sets itself apart by using the faster DDR4 RAM, a tech spec which only a few smartphones offer. Other confirmed features for the OnePlus 2 include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, fingerprint scanner and be priced "under 450 USD" (RM1717). It will also have a full metal frame and USB Type C port. No Malaysia release dates but the OnePlus 2 is expected to be announced officially on 27 July 2015.

ASUS have just launched their "100 Days of Zen" campaign where everyday for the next 100 days, one winning photo will get their photographer a free ASUS ZenFone 2 smartphone. Done in collaboration with Robert Jahns (otherwise known as nois7 on Instagram) all you have to do to enter is download an image by Robert from the site and add a little something of your own (keep it G-rated please). The Huawei Honor series of smartphones have always been about value and quality in nicely designed package. Rounding out the previous Honor 3C Lite, Honor 4C, Honor 4X and Honor 6 family is the Huawei Honor 6 Plus. Like the Honor 6 before it, it features 4G LTE Cat6 connectivity and IR (infra-red) blaster for universal remote control but also adds on a dual rear camera, massive 3600 mAh battery and improved HiSilicon Kirin 925 processor. When it first came out, the ASUS ZenFone range of smartphones made a huge impact as devices that looked as good as flagship smartphones with nearly as good performance and features yet were priced for the entry-level to midrange. Obviously, the ASUS ZenFone 2 range of smartphones have rather big shoes to fill, but with features like 4GB RAM, 5MP PixelMaster front cameras, 64-bit Intel processors, 4G LTE and improvements across the board, the new ZenFones could very well surpass the achievements of its predecessors.
