Following the implementation of the open payment system at MEX, NPE, BESRAYA and several other highways, another expressway is now joining in and accepting payment via debit or credit cards - The Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH). The open payment system at Malaysian highways’ toll plazas is now gaining steam after making its debut on the MEX highway on 3 August. Starting yesterday, 2 more highways are allowing you to pay tolls via debit or credit cards, namely the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA).

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi today announced that the open payment system at MEX Highway’s Putrajaya toll plaza will undergo a public testing period beginning tomorrow (3 August). Essentially, this allows users to pay for tolls using debit or credit cards.

Previously, we reported on the Ministry of Transport’s (MOT) plan to allow users to pay for public transportation in our country with debit and credit cards. Further breaking Touch ’n Go’s monopoly is the Works Ministry’s decision to allow toll payments via the same methods.
Well, we may get an announcement for when this open payment system would be implemented in both soon. This after Pay with Debit recently teased the matter via its official social media accounts.

Anthony Loke, Malaysia’s Minister of Transportation recently announced that all public transportation will apply an open payment system so you may be able to use credit and debit cards to pay for Public Transportation. Previously, you could only use tokens or Touch N’ Go cards to make digital payments for Public Transportation like buses, LRT, MRT and Komuter.
