Huawei recently received the award of "Biggest Contribution to 5G Development" at the 5G World Summit for their efforts in creating the next generation in high-speed mobile Internet and networks. Standardization of 5G networks is expected to begin next year with the goal of reaching 10Kbps throughput and 1ms latency to become prevalent by 2020. Huawei is currently laying the foundation for this by introducing new networking technologies designed specifically to increase the effectiveness and speed of 5G networks. Since 2014, Huawei released the world’s highest throughput test bed in high band (above 6GHz) and low band (below 6GHz), with total throughput reaching 115Gbps and 10.32Gbps respectively. In the academic field, Huawei has contributed over 180 papers on 5G in close collaboration with leading universities such as New York University and Harvard University. Huawei also plays an important role in many standard organizations and industry alliances such as 5GPPP, IMT2020, 5GIC, 5GMF and NGMN, defining 5G together with all industry partners. Here's what Huawei had to say about it:
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the judging committee, all industry colleagues as well as Informa for this first 5G award. It’s a great recognition of Huawei’s efforts towards 5G innovation, standardization contribution and industry collaboration. Since we started 5G research in 2009, Huawei has achieved significant breakthroughs in end-to-end 5G system innovation, including the new air interface technologies, new architecture and the world’s highest throughput test bed. We promise to continue our efforts towards contributing to a global unified standard and achieving a win-win industry chain in close collaboration with the whole industry."Chaobin Yang, CMO of Huawei Wireless Product Line

Featuring a curved display, genuine leather backside, laser autofocus and much more, the LG G4 is currently the latest flagship smartphone from LG and is probably the first we've seen officially in Malaysia for a while. Other tech specs for the LG G4 include Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage, 4G LTE connectivity, a 3000 mAh battery, NFC, 802.11ac WiFi and Android 5.1 Lollipop. LG have always made good phones with unique design and quality builds (in remembrance of the LG VU) but haven't always had the best hype or marketing. As it is, the first batch of stock comes with a FREE extra 3000 mAh battery, charging cradle and Leather Quick Circle case at the LG Mobile Specialised Store in Sunway Pyramid.

Pictures of what appear to be two new smartphones from Xiaomi have surfaced. This includes what appears to be the metallic backside of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 complete with dual tone LED flash and a fingerprint scanner. The other leaked picture shows a smartphone with dual rear cameras somewhat like the Huawei Honor 6 Plus. This still unnamed dual camera smartphone has dual LED flash and a rather glossy backplate with what appears to be a metal frame. As always with such leaks and rumours do take these pics with a good pinch of salt as Xiaomi have not hinted at any dual camera setup at all. In any case, there are no Malaysia release dates or pricing details but we could see these two new Xiaomi smartphone in the next few months. Stay tuned for more developments.

Rumours have surfaced about a new ASUS ZenFone for the entry-level market called the ASUS ZenFone Go. Coming in pastel colours, this new ZenFone follows the same design as the ZenFone 2 complete with rear volume controls. This position is currently held by the ASUS ZenFone C with its 4.5-inch display. This new ZenFone Go is rumoured to come with a 5-inch display with at least a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. Other tech specs include a MediaTek MT6582 processor, 2GB of RAM, 8GB storage, 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera. Despite the camera upgrades, it is expected to feature just 3G connectivity. While there are no Malaysia release dates or pricing details we suspect that the ZenFone Go is just for selected markets and won't be coming to Malaysia since we've yet to see any Mediatek powered ZenFones here just yet. It is expected by the end of July 2015 though, and we could see an Intel powered ZenFone Go for Malaysia instead, perhaps powered by the budget friendly and 3G modem integrated Intel Atom x3. Stay tuned for more developments.
