The recently announced Nokia X range of smartphones offers users a unique mix of Nokia and windows Phone apps with the ability to run Android apps. When it first came out, Microsoft set it so that while you could sideload an Android app, all the official apps would be accessible via the Nokia Store. This meant that you couldn't access the Google Play store or use certain Google services like Google Now. The resourceful folks at XDA Developers have got around this by rooting the device, even offering a guide on how to do it. While Nokia have not condemned this, it could void your warranty, so be careful what you do when the Nokia X and Nokia XL make their arrival in Malaysia on 5 March 2014.

Motorola's Moto G may well stir the midrange pot a good bit with it's cut-throat price and Google enhanced features but rumours are swirling that the Moto X may soon go international just like it's little brother. This comes after the Moto Maker is finally no longer exclusive to AT&T and therefore no longer made just for the US market. Comments made by Motorola's various senior executives have indicated that we could soon see the Moto X appear in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Asia and Malaysia could soon follow suit. So far, the Moto X is currently being offered at a very tempting $299 (RM956) off contract. Specific Malaysia release dates are still not available though, but we're guessing it could arrive a bit later in 2014, possibly in Q3 to Q4 of 2014. Hopefully the price tag remains the same (or doesn't go higher).

As a company in the smartphone business, Motorola was responsible for quite a few world's firsts in the phone and smartphone industry. So when it got bought by Google, many were expecting great things. We just didn't expect it would take this long. Finally, Dennis Woodside, Motorola CEO has come out and confirmed a couple of things which include:
- The Motorola X phone is real, it will be known as Moto X, be very contextually aware, broadly distributed and made in the US (and probably coming in Q3 of 2013).
- Motorola will be relaunching their product line from now until October.
- The new product line will focus more on quality than quantity.
