CyberSecurity Malaysia CEO Datuk Amirudin Abdul Wahab in a keynote speech at FIDO APAC Summit 2024 said that Malaysia is advocating to do away with passwords to enhance cybersecurity. Instead, passwordless methods such as biometric authentication, hardware tokens and 1-time passcodes offer robust alternatives that are harder to compromise.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has decreed that the Cyber Security Act 2024 (Act 854) will come into force starting 26 August 2024, after receiving the approval of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim on 18 June and published in the Gazette on 26 June.
