Huawei's new OS may be named Ark OS instead of HongMeng

Huawei’s in a tight spot right now as many vendors and businesses severe ties with the Chinese manufacturer. It seems like Huawei had anticipated this move for awhile and has been working on their very own OS. Reports have surfaced that the OS may be named “Ark OS” instead of the initially thought HongMeng.

  • UK-based ARM suspends relationship with Huawei over US blacklist, but it isn’t all grim

UK-based ARM suspends relationship with Huawei over US blacklist, but it isn’t all grim

According to the BBCARM Holdings, designers of nearly all the smartphone chipsets and processors in the world recently sent out a memo to stop "all active contracts, support entitlements, and any pending engagements” with Huawei due to the US blacklisting. While ARM is a UK-based company owned by Japan-based SoftBank, it purportedly uses “US origin technology” in their designs which are also used in Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin chipsets. While this means that we could see less Huawei Kirin chipsets in the future, it isn’t all as grim or “insurmountable” as some may believe.

Opinions: Will Google’s decision to side with the US affect Huawei at all? How will it affect us in Malaysia?

Recent news that Google has stopped access to certain services and updates for Huawei on US orders has sent any number of Malaysians into a frenzy. The first thing we have to say is, chill and keep calm, the stopped access only affects future updates to certain proprietary Google apps and the upcoming Android Q. If you’re a Huawei device user, you won’t lose access to GMail or YouTube today (we used Google Docs to type this with no issues). We'd recommend taking a chill pill for now and seeing what else Google details in their official statement and what Huawei has planned.

Your Huawei devices may not have Android support soon

Trade wars have always been brutal and the current trade war between the United States and China is potentially about to leave many Huawei users disappointed. Huawei’s business with Google has been suspended and among the services affected include the transfer of hardware, software and technical services. TL;DR: Huawei users would potentially lose access to popular Google services such as Google Play Store, Gmail and Youtube.
